Throw back Thursday: Bad Lizard (belgium)

Belgium’s Bad Lizard formed in 1980 and initially leaned toward hard rock, as heard on their first single released in 1982. By 1983, they had shifted toward a heavier, proto-power metal sound with their next 12” EP. Their only full-length album, Power of Destruction, arrived in 1985 and marked their most definitive musical statement before the band disbanded due to lineup instability and cancelled tour plans.

Released by Roadrunner Records, Power of Destruction featured ten tracks across 41 minutes. The album combined dual-guitar arrangements, melodic pacing, and varied tempos, drawing stylistic comparisons to Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Accept. Each track offered a distinct mood and structure, contributing to a cohesive listening experience. The production was notably strong for a band outside the mainstream, with clear instrumentation and dynamic vocals.

Although Bad Lizard never secured a stable lineup after the departure of vocalist Eddy Termote, they performed alongside acts such as King Diamond, Manowar, Helloween, Destruction, and Agent Steel. The album received positive reviews internationally and maintained a cult reputation in underground metal circles.

Power of Destruction has since been reissued on vinyl and, for the first time, officially on CD—preserving Bad Lizard’s contribution to 1980s European heavy metal.

Relics From the Crypt, a sub-label of Dying Victims Productions focused on archival reissues, has confirmed January the 23rd, 2026 as the worldwide release date for the reissue of Bad Lizard’s cult debut album “Power of Destruction,” available on CD and vinyl LP.

David Bowie, Lodger, 1979 on RCA Victor

Third album in the so-called Berlin trilogy (after Low and “Heroes”) in collaboration with Brian Eno and Tony Visconti. Recorded in Switzerland and New York city, and the first Bowie album to feature Adrian Belew alongside Carlos Alomar.

A remastered Lodger came out in 2017 as part of the box set A New Career In a New Town (1977-1982).

My copy—via the Worcester Record Riot—is an early 80s reissue for the European Market, on RCA International, pressed by Sonopress in Germany.

David Bowie, A Divine Symmetry, 2022 on Parlophone

Divine Symmetry was first available as a box set in 2022, with 4 CDs and a Blu-Ray disc (or a 72 track digital download). This single LP vinyl edition, with the subtitle An Alternative Journey Through Hunky Dory was released in February 2023.

Hunky Dory is one of my all time favorite albums, so getting an alternative version was a no-brainer. Four of the tracks are from the BOWPROMO mixes, six are 2021 alternate mixes, one (“Andy Warhol”) is the original mix, one (“Life on Mars”) has the original ending restored, and “Bombers” (an outtake) is added.

My copy via the Worcester Record Riot. I love the replacement of the labels with BOWIE where RCA would have been in the type style of RCA.

Saturday evening’s first recording is a Bill Evan’s Trio reissue, the On Haunted Heart sessions recorded at Riverside Studio. This is a spectacular example of mid-century straight ahead jazz. The playing is as fine as it gets, the tracking and mix superb. A period gem. #new #recording #piano #trio #jazz #reissue

Do you have an old favourite record that's never, ever been reissued? Something not currently available to purchase, stream, or download (save subpar rips or Youtube fan uploads).

I got lots: old Texas hippy shit like the two mid-70s Greezy Wheels albums and Lost Gonzo Band's 3rd (and best) Signs of Life LP from 1978 . . . LA artpunk stuff like BPeople's self-titled 1981 Faulty Products LP or the 1st wild Leaving Trains LP on Bemisbrain from 1984 . . . even Eddie "King" Roeser's post Urge Overkill project, Electric Airlines, whose digital album only saw limited release via download on his website in the late 90s. Me I'd be the first in line to buy a new, authorised release of any of these.

What about you?
