US Secretary of State Rubio describes classifying the AfD as 'definitely right-wing extremist' as 'tyranny in secret' (or 'tyranny in disguise'), which seems downright absurd in view of US President Trump's realpolitik.
But if you think about it, maybe not, because what the U.S. government itself practices is not a 'tyranny in disguise', but simply a completely open tyranny: both domestically and internationally!

He then discussed in an interview w/ #RightWing Internet personality #MikeBenz plans for #DarrenBeattie to lead a “transparency effort.”

Finally, he sought a list of additional #unredacted agency records—including all GEC #grants & #contracts, as well as subgrants, which are particularly sensitive due to risks of #retaliation to subgrantees, who often work in local #journalism, #FactChecking, or pro-#democracy orgs under repressive regimes. It also asked for “all documents mentioning” the #ElectionIntegrity Partnership, a #research collaboration between #academics & #tech that has been a target of the #RightWing.
Most people on the list appear to have focused at some point on tracking or challenging #disinformation broadly, or on countering specific false claims, including those related to the #2020election. A few of the individuals appear primarily to be critics of #Trump, #DarrenBeattie or others in the #RightWing #media ecosystem. Many have been the subject of Trump’s public #grievances for years.

Insightful article from a few years ago on the recently deceased David Horowitz. The murder of Betty Van Patter was probably the occasion rather than the cause of his beginning his migration from the new left to the far right. One important consequence of this migration was his launching of the political career of the malignant Stephen Miller.
As an individual, Horowitz sounds awful and given the politics of his latter years, a feeling of relief or even joy at the news of his death is understandable.
Yet we need to be ready to ask what in the culture of the new left and of the US left in general nourished the loathsome politics of Horowitz. Just uttering the words "horseshoe theory" will not suffice.
