Rich Lyons made the choice to send 160 names of students and faculty who have made statements supporting Palestine or criticizing Israel's government actions to the openly fascist regime in Washington, knowing these people would likely be targeted for harassment or worse. Rich Lyons apparently had no pushback from his upper administrator underlings (about 20 of them), assuming any of them even knew he did this.
"Universities" don't do things if they are authoritarian hierarchies (as almost all in the US are). Their presidents do them. In this case, he did it secretly, without even telling the rest of the university, let alone involving them in the decision.
We have made American universities, structurally, as much like corporations as we have been able. Shit like this is probably going to happen more and more as the faux-corporate leaders of our universities behave like their corporate templates.
