In these #RulesAsCode recommendations for the #G7, we promote #OpenSource, #BetterRules (RaC from the drafting phase), and suggest to start with social benefits assessment for high impact.

Haven't posted about #rulesascode here in a bit...

Had fun talking with the RaC Guild about categorizing Rules as Code technologies, recently.

Since August I've been very slowly working on getting the reasoner in the new Blawx prototype up to par with the current version. I expect to be finished with that major refactoring project this weekend.

I expect to have a MVP of Blawx v2 next month, and a live version online early in the new year.🤞🏻

I wrote a paper on governance of AI & Rules as Code and it's now up on the homepage of

law.mit.edu

if you're interested in such things.

Very close 🤏🏻 to being able to create a demo with my new §Blawx prototype demonstrating 4 of the myriad ways neuro-symbolic AI can be used to enhance #RulesAsCode: drafting the code, running an interview, converting facts to symbolic representations, and converting symbolic AI results to natural language.

Stay tuned...

This is huge for #RulesAsCode. Not only the 20% improvement in reasoning, but the fact that with no human intervention they got executable declarative encodings 85% of the time.

It means having an LLM draft declarative logic code for you can work, and the encodings you will get will be useful as compared to just giving it the text.

Now we just need to see to what extent it also works in §Blawx, with the semantics of sCASP, applied to law...

Got a little bit of work done on the new §Blawx prototype, and the code editors are now fully-functional.

Next up is to make some architecture decisions and re-implement the back-end reasoner and API. Hoping to make it more scalable, more secure, and easier to maintain than in v1.

Once that's done, the kind of demos I can do of neuro-symbolic AI for Law get a lot cooler. #RulesAsCode #LegalTech

Finally got to spend some time working on the new version of Blawx. Fixed a bug in the Agendas interface, added all the CRUD features for chat applications. Next will be the chat interface and a completion endpoint, and then I can start experimenting with generating code from agendas that will actually control the behaviour of the chat agent.

I wish I was more certain WHAT was going to work, there. Something will, but the less appealing options are a lot of work. #LegalTech #RulesAsCode

My #RulesAsCode colleague in #GCDigital Martin Perron absolutely kills it in this interview on the Rechtsgespäch podcast! His segment is at 25m, (and in English). Sets out everything we have been doing with §Blawx for the last couple of years, and why it is unique in the world! 🇨🇦

I'll be presenting two DPGs at #FOSDEM at 17h50 in the Public Code room (AW1.120):
@opentermsarchive → shifting the power balance from #BigTech to regulators and end users through #ToS observation
#OpenFisca openfisca.org → expressing #RulesAsCode and opening APIs on legislation
See you there! 😊

A week after I started, I have a new version of the code editor I built the code generation demo in last week. It is functionally identical. But instead of one enormous 7500 line HTML file, it's a single 40-line file, and 134 individual javascript modules. Which will make life a lot easier when I start building the interview agenda features next weekend. You can call it "paying off technical debt." #RulesAsCode

Wouldn't it be great if instead of having to write #RulesAsCode code yourself, AI would just do it for you?

Man. That would be great.

So anyway, I made a video today.

This weekend I built a feature in a new version of §Blawx, where you click "Suggest Code", and it uses 🤖AI to draft the 🧑🏻‍💻encoding of a section of ⚖️law for you ⚙️automatically.

It works better than I would have thought, already, and there is a lot of room to get better.

So the question of whether an LLM can write code in a visual #RulesAsCode tool like §Blawx is answered "yes."✅

Now the questions are "how well?", and "how much developer time does it save?"
