Here's a deeply nerdy talk I gave about sending lidar data over webRTC data channels using 5g.

26: People argue that more fiat is used in crime than , but this is misleading. Fiat has tons of legit uses. Crypto does not, and as a percentage of criminal activity is more crime-adjacent.

Stupid Crypto Talking Point #26 (fiat crime/ponzi)
"Banks commit fraud too!" / "Stocks are a ponzi also!" / "More fiat is used for crime than Crypto!” /
"Fiat isn't backed by anything either!"

19 - Pretending 's "hashrate" is a sign of security

One metric that has been increasing lately is the amount of people mining bitcoin. The end result of this isn't "increased security" like proponents say, but instead, significantly more wastage of energy. It's one of the industry's many totally useless metrics

18: " has potential"

16 years later they're still pretending at some point they'll find a valid "use case" for . Meanwhile it could disappear tomorrow and nobody except criminals and scammers and degen gamblers would even notice.

17: " is like stocks"

In an effort garner credibility through association, or to suggest it's not any worse, crypto is often erroneously compared to traditional markets.

16: " is different"

As more and more crypto projects reveal they're nothing more than scams, bitcoin bros continue their desperate argument that " is not bitcoin" and that somehow their ponzi is not a ponzi like the others. This isn't true. All these token schemes are 99.9% the same.

15: "It's still early"

bros have been saying now for 16 years that " is like the Internet" and it "has potential" but still can't point to a single useful thing it does for normal people. It's as old as the iPhone, but look how far the iPhone has come?

13: "Fiat has no intrinsic value either"

When bros are made aware that has no intrinsic value, they point to fiat and say it's the same, but it really isn't in some fundamental ways.

Stupid Crypto Talking Point #13 (Fiat)
"Fiat isn't backed with anything” / Money has no intrinsic value either

1. This is called a Tu Quoque Fallacy, aka "Whataboutism", "Two Wrongs Make A Right" or
"Appeal to Hypocrisy" - it's a distraction from the core argument. Just because you can find
something you think is similar/wrong that doesn't mean your alternative system is an
acceptable substitute.

2. Fiat may not have any intrinsic value, but it's backed by the full force and faith of the
government (or in the case of the EU, multiple countries). It's also mandated by law to be
accepted for all payments and debts, public and private. And the entity that guarantees the
integrity of money is the same centralized entity that gives you stuff like:

« running water, roads, fire protection, schools, libraries, bridges, flood protection, electricity,
internet, cellular, GPS, and pretty important things like civil rights and private property
ownership.

If you are worried that the government is going to collapse and make fiat worthless, note that
at the same time you will also lose protection for your civil rights, property ownership and
critical utilities like electricity and Internet upon which crypto depends - none of which would
exist without substantive government support.

This is particularly important today as the administration has phony discussions about and how is supposed to fix that, which is totally false.

8: One of the most common bro arguments is "so-and-so is using/endorsing/looking into " and that's a sign of "success."

In reality, this is a distraction from the long history of failed adoptions of blockchain, and ignorance of the fact that for-profit companies will embrace anything they think will make a buck, and abandon it the moment it doesn't.
