#SampleCDs

2024-08-04

I just had a rummage around in a big box o’ random crap I’ve got in the spare room as it occurred to me that I used to have a Zip drive and thought it might be in there. Alas, no, but I did find some of my old Zip disks, plus some other random bits and bobs.

I found my old joysticks for my Commodore Plus/4 (very un-ergonomic, I never liked using them even back in the day), the A520 modulator for my Amiga 500 (haven’t needed to use that in ages!), a seemingly unopened floppy head cleaners for both 3 1/2” and 5 1/4” drives (I’ve never even owned a 5 1/4” drive, so that’ll remain unused) and, the bit I’m most looking forward to delving into, 6 CDs worth of audio samples. There must be at least some useful sounds in that lot I can use!

I’m sure I’ve still got that Zip drive *somewhere*, I seriously doubt I’d have chucked it. I bloody hope not anyway.

They were never great to use.A photo of four Zip disk boxes, with Fujifilm-branded inlays. The contents are 100mb Zip disks.A photo of some CDs containing a load of audio samples. In the left is eJay Sound Collection #2 which contains 7,500 sounds in wave format across 4 discs. On the right is, at the top, is Shareware Universe’s Universe of Sounds containing thousands of MIDI, wav, mod and voc files, and below it, The Ded Good Music Library’s Techno-file CD.A photo of a Maxell branded set of floppy head cleaners for both 3 1/2” and 5 1/4” drives plus some cleaning fluid, which I imagine would be useless now. Next to it is a TV modulator for the Amiga 500, a long beige box.
