Well, my time as RateCity's in-house SEO has come to an end, and now I can move on to find something as equally challenging or more so. It's been fun, and some of the things I've been able to add to the team and my own skill set in the five years include:
* Encouraging more use of schema data to gain ranking, including the use of HowTo text and images to increase SERP size (at one point, it was the entire mobile view!)
* Improve page speed monumentally with regular testing requirements
* Deliver more automation for content additions that help improve the time of in-house writers while detailing more of the vast product database
* Architect the AI-based positive SEO solutions for the group
* Redesign the website and several components with a holistic take on SEO
Folks who know me will know I'm not a big fan of relying on backlinks as the only SEO thing that matters. There's a whole lot more that needs to be considered, especially these days.
I take a holistic approach to search, covering content and technical alike, and that's what I've done for the past five years. I've even ventured into the world of SEO-led UX, something that seems a little like fringe science, but connects with my love for research, design, and programming, and seems more like something Google cares about, too. Hopefully it leaves the organisation in a good place to take on what's coming.
Next up, who knows? If you know an organisation in need of an SEO that likes to think outside the box, give me a holler. I'm all ears.
