This reminds me of a discussion I had with my sister recently about #horror. We are both fans of #TheMagnusArchives, but are very put off by scenes where a character who has no agency just suffers for no reason, especially when depicted in a realistic way. We were trying to find a term for that that is separate from horror, but couldn't.
