As sad it might sound - isn't it just another step in the evolution of social #seperation and social #isolation?

We spend our time with machines, we communicate through machines, we share our hopes and fears with machines, we have sex in front of porn provided by machines - we are used to see machines as solution and as more capable as we are.

We call the bloody thing #AI

How could some of us not see a #god in it?

It's been 3 years since I came out as trans, and it continues to be a challenging journey. The last 12 months especially I have seen some new lows but hopefully it has put me on a more positive trajectory for the future. #Trans #transjourney #Translife #Seperation #transexperience #movingon

#RitesOfPassage

#Rites of passage are not as #occult and #weird as one could thought by the first impression but they are present in every society in all times. Rites of passage are a #transformation from one state to another, leaving one group, entering another.

The three stages are #seperation, #liminality, #incorporation.

In a #pagan perspective it is in my opinion worth to think about it what contemporary rites of passage are and how they are performed for example the life cycle.

Years ago I was at a hackerspace where someone was giving us a talk about installing some #php cms. The guy is famous for being in #security minded circles and I did contact him before the talk about issues I wondered he would speak about. Data/priv #seperation, etc... (he told me the audience will not understand).

The problem. We have a lot of webapps written in php, perl, java, etc... that all have one problem. They all use the #privileges the web visitor has. In the old days that was user nobody, these days it often is user www-data.

There was a time when that was ok, in the 70th or so :-)

Now imagine having a web application where at least (keep that in mind) the admin is using different privileges (read user name and password) then the average user. I was able to hack my way into a lot of web applications due to the lack of such a thing (think of sql injection, html #injections, #session #hijacking, etc...)

When we look at Hubzilla (or any modern webapp) then we did not evaluate to be honest. Browsers did, they are currently protecting us against basic hacks but the fact remains that we coders do not seem to learn how to too.

Sessions.
Most of the time sessions are generated and used in their default form. What is wanted is generating a new session id on every pageview so hijacking a session with info from logfiles is not possible.

Database.
We normally lock our doors, hide our money in a safe with a different code/key, etc...  Hubzilla, and others, are simply stating you can use the same connections and database credentials as the user who is liking your picture from a totally different location. What about different credentials for the admin interface? Or tools to prevent others to even access a directory when they are not from a specific type of network?

File storage
PHP, and yes, other languages too, are able to simply parse code attached to files as long as the files are parsed. Rasmus Lerdorf stated it was undoable to stop that.

All in all there are some perks for hackers that want to do evil. What are your thoughts about this?
