I just memo-smelled the nasty bug spray that tractors used to do around the agriculture town when I was young. Mom said it killed mosquitos, I am not sure it helped much, but it STUNK. I am sure it was harmless to us kids running around in it, huffing and puffing as we played.

Memory Smells are fucking weird.

I really hate how my brain gets used to smells and then ignores them so quickly.

Like… there’s this candle I don’t like… but now I’m used to it… and don’t have the energy to dispose of it 😂

wtf brain‽

A couple of years ago I bought a few cheap, identical long-sleeve polo shirts from eBay.
I think they were corporate clothing that was intended to be printed but wasn't.

They have been worn a lot and they don't owe me anything, and still show very little sign of wear
Except
They are developing a strange musty odour that no amount of washing, changing washing powder \ temperature, air-drying or whatever will shift.

They are going to have to go in the bin because I can no longer bear to wear them.

Has anyone else experienced this?
(And, no, I don't smell, it's definitely these clothes 😆

Ahhhhhhhh! ❤️ 😍

I love the smell of an old school, basic, wooden pencil. Cheers me up and calms me down.
Papermate Canadiana Naturals being the current.

Have never heard of anyone saying they love the smell of their computer/laptop/ipad/smart phone/ereader etc.

The smell of a brand new roll of film

It’s been a while, so maybe I’m remembering wrong, but I thought I loved the smell of a roll of film, fresh out of the canister. And in particular, Fuji smelled better than Kodak. This might have been because Fuji had some deal with Ritz when I was working there so their film was cheap. And because it was sort of “our” film, we were very much Fuji fans. It generally had a bit of a cooler look to it than Kodak. And Kodak was the first to start putting awful 800 speed film in disposables without a flash and telling people that was ok for indoor shots (it wasn’t) and then they’d come in with these awful, grainy, underexposed shots and complain to ME that the prints didn’t look good.

Sometimes you could show them the negatives and tell them, “hey, there’s nothing THERE. I can’t print a picture from nothing”. But mostly they were just mad.

Anyway, the roll of Fuji 200 I got this morning didn’t have much of a smell, and I was disappointed. The F5 made a really satisfying noise when it grabbed the leader, though.

WRITER FUEL: What did Ancient Rome smell like? We can probably safely assume Rome, in many areas, was likely pretty dirty and rank-smelling. That said, there's evidence of perfumes, incense and even deodorants.

I will tell you a short and unimportant #story

In the mid-80s I became a stinky teenager, so I got deodorant. I was deeply embarrassed about all things body-related, so I got the most common deodorant purchased by other embarrassed nerds in my school: Speed Stick. At the time, I think there was only one variety. It didn't look exactly like this picture, but I think this is more or less what it was.

For the next three to five years I received many compliments on my "cologne" or my "scent" when I only had Normal Regular Green Speed Stick. Something about my stinky teenage hormones apparently made my BO mix with this mass-produced one-size-disguises-all-stenches formula to create an accidentally personally amazing smell. Just for me.

By my early 20s the magic was gone. I just smelled like some dude wearing Speed Stick. I will never recapture that glory.

🚀👃 Although #space is a vacuum where smells can't travel, #astronauts consistently report metallic, burnt-steak odors after spacewalks, likely caused by atomic oxygen reacting with spacesuit materials during repressurization.

Scientists have also used space missions to "smell" distant worlds – #comets reek of rotten eggs and formaldehyde, #Mars would smell faintly sulfurous, and #Saturn's moon #Titan would smell like gasoline due to its hydrocarbon lakes.

Wales sniffs out the truth: We’re the UK’s least tolerant of bad breath and rotten food

A new national survey has revealed that 67% of people in Wales can’t stand the smell of bad breath or rotten food — the highest intolerance rate in the UK. So if you’re planning a romantic dinner in Swansea, maybe skip the garlic and bin the expired cheese.

But it’s not all disgust and disdain. The same survey, commissioned by Jelly Belly Candy Company to mark the launch of its BeanBoozled 7th Edition, uncovered some delightfully weird preferences too. Apparently, 33% of Welsh respondents love the smell of petrol, while 15% enjoy the scent of smoke and farms. Who needs Chanel No. 5 when you’ve got Eau de Tractor?

And when it comes to taste, 20% of Welsh people say chilli is their least favourite flavour — proving once again that not everyone’s up for a fiery fling with their food.

The survey also revealed that over half of Brits (52%) secretly enjoy smells that are generally considered unpleasant, with Wales leading the charge in quirky sniffing habits. Wet Dog and Burnt Rubber? Bring it on.

To celebrate these strange and surprising preferences, Jelly Belly has launched its BeanBoozled 7th Edition — a game that turns snack time into a roulette of risk and reaction. Each jelly bean looks innocent enough, but could taste like Dead Fish, Booger, or the brand-new horrors: Wet Dog and Burnt Rubber.

“We know how much Jelly Belly fans love our BeanBoozled collection, so we decided to bring double the excitement with new wacky flavours,” said Rob Swaigen, VP of Global Marketing.

Jelly Belly Bean Boozled

So, do you really know your loved ones? 94% of Welsh people think they do, but this game might just prove otherwise. Hand your mate a jelly bean that looks like Top Banana, only for them to discover it’s actually Wet Dog. Cue the gag reflex and the giggles.

Whether you’re into sweet roulette or just want to test your tastebud bravery, BeanBoozled 7th Edition is now available across the UK. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Ah, the New Yorker—where an elaborate ode to sniffing musty museum is considered . 🤔 It's 2025, and apparently, we're just now realizing that exist. Bravo, humanity! 👃🧐
