Out for a 6,000 step hike on this glorious Wednesday. Sunny and +7°C means a light unzipped spring coat. Lots of melting going on but snowbanks on the sreets are still 4 to 5 feet high. A warm weekend with considerable rain might bring some flooding.
The ice on Lake Simcoe is apparently still pretty thick. We stopped at a couple of shoreline parks used as on-ramps and snowmobiles were active today taking advantage of the weather. About half of the fishing shacks on Cooks Bay have been hauled in to shore but lots left that need to be removed.

Harley the tan coloured dog is sitting on a snowmobile trail that leads onto Lake Simcoe. She is surrounded by deep snow that has been packed down by ATVs and snowmobiles, and you can see the snow covered lake in the background. It's very sunny and she is squinting because she forgot her sunglasses.

Went out to see if snowdrops had emerged during this recent thaw but all I found was a golf ball (which has traveled over 2 rows of houses, 1 street, and 4 rows of 60-90gt tall trees....fore?) #snowdrops #springthaw #BadGolfers #GoodMorning

A close up of a paper birch trunk. The tree slants from left to right in the image; this is how it has grown because the weight of the snow each year bends it to that side and it has to work to get itself mostly upright again each spring. The bark is subtly colored in creams, yellows, and salmon pinks. The outer layers are peeling off the tree and dangling in fantastic curls, leaving the fresher bark beneath visible. One line of bark curls are small and dangle like corkscrews. The other line of curls are wider and less tight. Together they make the tree look very fancy.
