Back to work today, prepping for a software update and 60 classroom computer re-imaging. Then, next week, I’ve got to check and update 24 industrial control system teaching boxes and 20 IoT collections for our next set of #CyberSecurity lessons. 🤓

Reasonably happy with the conversion of my #Fender #Urge (Mexico) Bass from its active preamp, to old-school passive wiring.
Finally everything soldered in the right way, but there's still this darn hum that I cant get out of it despite having grounded basically everything.
It tones down when I touch the strings so I guess it must be the bridge... Any #guitar #nerd / #technicians here with ideas?

Sometimes I want to use the spray bottle with other technicians (esp. at customers).

They complain about dumb management decisions of moving everything into public cloud but then also do not hand their management any data other than needing 10x 10.000 Euro servers (purchasing costs). Not doing any proper comparison and then you end up with a comparison of one time costs against monthly costs that gets handed off to the C-levels 🤦‍♀️

This last fortnight I've assembled a new server rack, installed the UPS and Dell hardware, and configured a five-server #Proxmox cluster to host VMs on for our upcoming MSc Cyber Security courses.

Most of this is new to me, so a great learning opportunity. 🤓

“A job in industry is also now harder to attain. Modern #factories are high-tech, run by #engineers and #technicians. In the early 1980s #BlueCollar assemblers, machine operators and repair workers made up more than half of the #manufacturing workforce.

Today they account for less than a third. #Whitecollar professionals outnumber blue-collar factory-floor workers by a wide margin. Even once obtained, a #FactoryJob is far less likely to be unionised than in previous decades, with membership having fallen from one in four workers in the 1980s to less than one in ten today.

In order to find the modern equivalent of such jobs, we looked for #employment with the same traits. What offers decent #pay, #unionisation, requires no #degree and can soak up the male workforce?

The result: mechanics, repair technicians, security workers and the skilled trades.”
