Christmas songs and questions on #TenToTheTop with Lord Gary Davies today, far too much (i.e. some) Cliff and The Cheeky Girls and St. Winalots.
But also an excuse to bring out the Showaddywaddy cannon: had completely forgotten their festive tune.

So much to dislike on today's #TenToTheTop: horrors and geegaws from Clive Dunn, Gareth Malone, Bill Nighy, and Bryan Adams' song that felt like it was going to be a Christmas number one.
But we also got a chance to swoon in Martika's kitchen, and - oooooooooh! - Sunderland's finest.
Some great pop music on #TenToTheTop today. The Beatles! Cascada! Belinda Carlisle! Robert Miles! The Four Tops!
Some grate pop music, too. Leon Jackson. Ed Sheeran. Robson and Jerome.
The podcast won't contain my highlight: Rose Royce's version of "Theme from S-express".
On today's #TenToTheTop, we remembered Elaine Paige performing "Memories", and Steps' classic "5-6-7-8".
Ali G was a cultural phenomenon, big enough to have a single "Me Julie". It was a number two.
The Tweets were a cultural phenomenon, big enough to have a single "The birdie song". It was also a number two.
Got 19 questions right; couldn't dredge the singer from ABC in time, and was miles out on the tie-break.
Today’s #TenToTheTop featured:
“Mary had a little boy”, Snap!’s anthem to women’s liberation
The Darts, the #TOTP beloved cut-down version of Showaddywaddy.
When the Kumars recorded with Gareth Gates.
The Fratellis! The other hits of Katrina and the Waves!
And the early 90s grebo band Ned’s Atomic… Trousers?!
65 and 31, not that I’m allowed to take part.
45 and 65 on #TenToTheTop; wrongly thought “Green green grass” was pre-pandemic.
Discussion of Arthur Brown, Shakin’ Steven’s, and this klassiek von K-Klass.
An incorrect answer on #TenToTheTop reminded me of
The Marines.
Who? Exactly.
Sarah, Helen, and Denny were a three-piece power pop girl group from 1989, produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. A handful of flop singles ensured they'd be dropped before the end of 1990.
"Go go now" is a top-drawer bop. I accept no responsibility if you wake up at 3am humming this song.
Ten to the Top; I claim 65 and 65. 😏
Today’s contest required knowledge of Tom Robinson, my crush Martika, singer-turned-CBBC presenter Lolly, Pato Banton, the Plain White Ts, and this bunch of misfits.
I’ll take that.
65 and 29 on Ten to the Top, with chat about Another Level, Finley Quaye, a Five Star question, the Reynolds Girls, Savage Garden’s extended top ten run, and this utter classic.
"La primavera" - Sash!
Hard lines to the contestant on Ten to the Top this morning, who confused this song in Italian with the French-language "A common frog".
Still, it's good to see that Pan's People have a European counterpart.
Contestant: Yeah, I've been with my daughter to see Busted and McFly about five times.
Question: Who had a big hit with 'Air hostess'?
Contestant: Erm, er, pass.
Heard a bit of #TentotheTop in the car just now (I didn't realise the time). It's quite a good format that. Maybe put it on after 11 and more people might listen to it.
Lord Gary Davies: “Oh, you should check out the Dire Straits album”
Contestant: “Dire Straits? They’re my grandad’s favourite!”
Damn you, Paris Hilton! 51 is my best-ever score, though!
Vernon Kay talks about "Walk like an egyptian" done by the cast of Blue Peter.
This actually happened.

Vernon, sweetheart, not actually true that Mike Oldfield *recorded* the Blue Peter theme for the Cambodia appeal. He'd recorded it almost a year before, with "help" from Simon Groom.
However, Mike's royalties from the single release at the end of 1979 were donated to the most successful television appeal to date.

Radio 2's Ten To The Top gives an excuse to post some Neneh Cherry.
Here's "Manchild", from #TOTP this week in 1989.

Question about Public Enemy on Ten to the Top, there.
When were they last on the Popmaster radar?
#Radio2 #TenToTheTop #RhetoricalQuestion
It all came crashing down on question 9! Still my joint second-best score ever with 36. #BBCRadio2 #TenToTheTop
In this session we heard from @peterrowlett, who thinks he might be related to the master of the mint (but maybe we all are!), as well as Alyssa Burlton, who discusses what makes the perfect Mathsjam presentation - will the later talks follow the advice given? @mikegibson2010 talks about how likely it is for a child to be named Susan, and the effects of "Marmativity". Fredrik and Ida showed their Rubik's Dice, and demonstrated a feat of mental arithmetic using it (find them on Instagram @sciencecircus) Finally in this session we heard from @sam_hartburn who talks about the scoring on Radio 2's morning music quiz, and discussed how fair (or otherwise) it is.
