Martin Quittenton of The Faces died on this day ten years ago.
“Since you’ve been gone it’s hard to carry on
I’m gonna write about the birthday gown that I bought in town

Today’s listening is ‘Ooh La La’, the 1973 album by The Faces.
A typically ramshackled collection of good time rock ’n’ roll from Rod and the boys.
The original album sleeve must have been expensive to produce!
The front cover incorporates a sliding panel which, when you push down on the top edge, makes the man smile and his eyes move, in a very Terry Gilliam-esque manner!
The sleeve is also a gatefold and a top-loader. My copy is a bit age-mottled, but it still works.

Quick pop in to a local chazza and amongst the Cliff/Seekers/Doonican was this beauty from #thefaces. The sleeve is surprisingly in better nick than the vinyl but it plays ok if lacking in dynamics having been “well loved”. The Faces catalogue is available in hires audio via #qobuz and it’s spectacular. Think this will be kept for the sleeve alone. Can’t complain as it was only £1.50.

Many of the pre-1975 editions of TOTP were taped over due to the expense of video tape.
This is one that survived - and the reason for posting it is at 22m00s Rod Stewart and The Faces do 2 live numbers - and they're flippin' magic.
Pretty sure it's only Rod who's singing live for the 2nd number to a TV track.
The quality is awesome for 1971 too.

Happy Birthday Ronnie Wood (June 1, 1947). He first worked alongside #RodStewart in the #JeffBeckGroup. He then got together with three members of #TheSmallFaces to form #TheFaces joined by Rod on vocals. Wood joined The #RollingStones in '75 post departure of Mick Taylor.
