Drives inside the Jonsbo N1 are sliding up and down the rails with rubber rings (wheels?). That’s so cool!

That was tough, but I made it.
Connected SATA cables to the backplate of #Jonsbo N1. Three of them will go to the motherboard, and the other two are connected to the HBA SAS controller (it’s on the second photo at the bottom of motherboard).

I also fucked up with the RAM. Pangoly.com didn’t say anything, but my motherboard supports DDR5, and I chose DDR4.
So my #TheGRATEmigration11 is postponed, and my future #TrueNAS looks like this now.
#pcbuilding is hard when you don’t read everything about every piece of hardware chosen.

Well fuck. I should read the hardware specifications carefully and don’t trust pangoly.com anymore. I need an SFX PSU instead of ATX, obviously.

Fuck, I need “90 degree right angle SATA cables” for Jonsbo N1 =(

So I needed to connect 6 SATA drives. My PSU had 3 SATA power connectors and 2 Molex connectors. So I bought Molex->2xSATA power adapters.
Guess what? The backplate of the Jonsbo N1 is powered by 2 Molex connectors.

You can't have too many backups, right?

I'm preparing to replace all the drives in my Synology NAS. It will have small SSD drives only for the family cloud—photos and files.

All huge HHDs will go to my future TrueNAS. It's still #TheGRATEmigration11

I’ll need to connect 6 SATA drives to the motherboard with 4 SATA ports and a power supply with 3 SATA power connectors )))

There are no issues with power, because I just need to use Molex-to-SATA power adapters.

It is more complicated with data ports. I’ll need an HBA SAS controller for everything to work properly without writing my own drivers ))

Here are some useful links fromthe TrueNAS forum about it:

First hardware arrived. Nice 2.5 to 3.5 drive adapters from Hewlett Packard for my future DIY NAS with TrueNAS Scale.

So the plan of #TheGRATEmigration11 needs to be adjusted.

My Linux iso images collection has been uploading to #Hetzner for 19 hours already, so I can do some calculations.

It takes around 0.05337 hours to upload 1 GB. It will take 54.65169 hours to upload 1 TB and 546.52 hours for a full 10 TB collection upload. It's 23 days, guys.

I'm planning to stop this shenanigans and just shrink my collection to 4 TB, copy it to an external HDD, and then re-download deleted iso images.

Wrote down a migration plan for my #DIYNAS. It will be a GREAT migration, because:
1. I need to move 10 TB of Linux iso images to the new NAS from #SynologyNAS. Currently I’m uploading all my Linux iso images collection to #Hetzner object storage, but looks like this will take something around 15 days. Too sad my external HDD is only 4 TB.
2. Then I’ll need to do a full #Synology NAS backup to C2 storage to replace its hard drives with SSD drives and remove NVMe drives from it. This NAS will become a small and fast family cloud with just photos and documents. Plus a storage for various backups on a separate volume with two 6 TB HDDs.
One of the Synology NVMe drives will become a boot drive for #TrueNAS
3. I need to put my 12 TB HDDs into the DIY NAS, add a couple of SSDs for applications and download my Linux iso collection back from Hetzner.
That would be fun)

So I'm building myself a #DIY #NAS in a #Jonsbo N1. I'm planning to try #TrueNAS on it. I want to move #Plex there and all my #selfhosted services, I currently host for myself and my family. For now, public services will remain under #Proxmox on a mini PC.

Here is a build: pangoly.com/en/build/share/vQe

Hardware ordered. No drives included, because I'm planning to rob my #SynologyNAS for two drives.

I want a 12-16 cores node for my #Proxmox cluster. Like a real production node for high loads. I also found a perfect case for it, it’s #Jonsbo N1. Looks like I’m on the way of building myself a PC first time in 20 years.
