I'm getting super antsy to get back into crafting, whether it's in visual focus or not 🤔

JillianEve just released a tutorial to spin prepared flax, and @kazash recently sent me 300 grams of prepared linen to spin. I really want to do it for Tour De Fleece.

Turned some wool into fluff today.

Anyone else thinking about doing Tour De Fleece this year? I'm in the mood to spin lots of things at the moment, not for any real use, but the joy of just spinning.

#3goodthings:
1. Got up to the armhole shaping on the new tank top I’m working on.
2. Getting some combing done on my #TourdeFleece project, for some embroidery/colcha floss.
3. DadGoth’s hasn’t had anything w/alcohol in it for 8 days now.

I finished spinning the singles for the Mega Multi Gradient, hooray! Just one more skein to ply, which will only take about half an hour, and it'll be done! The whole pound of fibre took 11 weeks to spin and ply. I won't know the yardage until after it's washed, but if it matches the other stuff I made (fingers crossed that it does, because it's supposed to), it's about 1800 yards of 3-ply fingering weight yarn. Pictures soon :)

It's strange not to have the wheel in the middle of the living room after so long. I'm not planning to start a new spinning project until the #TourDeFleece starts in July. Gonna focus on some other artsy-craftsy things until then.

Had hopes of spinning sprints through the Femme #TourDeFleece but health crash demanded a week-long nap. Half a braid to go.

A large wooden bobbin on a spinning wheel fed via a sliding flyer is half-full with a gorgeous dark blue/purple yarn flecked with teal and pink. The forlorn braid and fiber waiting to be spun is sitting behind, near the two full bobbins, and all are wondering why the spinner has seemly forgotten them.

Purple 💜

After a slow start, I'm getting into the groove for #TourDeFleece Femmes. This poor fiber is so old and squished that I feel like I'm spending as long fluffing and pre-drafting as I'm spending spinning, but I guess that's good for keeping my hands from doing too much of the same thing?

Some purple tonal fiber spun into a single of yarn on a wooden bobbin.

Did a tiny bit of spinning and some prep for the first day of Tour de Fleece Femmes yesterday!

The teal green yarn is one of my long draw samples that used to be white but my kid did some solar dyeing with leftover food colouring. He told me all about how he wanted it to have a range of intensity to make a nice tonal. I'll wind it up and make a scarf for a stuffy or something in lieu of a square swatch.

A very small bump of yarn on my wooden spinning wheel sitting out on the deck. The fiber is purple and I'm spinning thinner than I did for my last sample.A mini skein of green tonal yarn, dyed after spinning. This is one of my long draw samples using slightly rustic Shetland and it's very unevenly spun.

TourDeFleece starts again today with the women’s Tour.

I’m about to start on the last braid of this gorgeous merino-bamboo-silk blend (400g of Magpie by GoldenFleeceStudio), and aim to finish this braid and ply the dark green by the end of this tour.

Two large wooden bobbins sitting on an upright lazy kate are mostly full with gorgeous purple-blue handspun yarn, flecked with teal and pink. A braid of the same fiber snakes between the bobbin toward the spinning wheel in the background with more of the same yarn on the bobbin-in-progress.
The lazy kate and the tall yarn swift behind sit on a set of white Ikea drawers below a weavibg warping board on the wall. And a whiteboard with large magnetic clips is blurred in the background.

I kind of love how my two singles show a clear progression in my long draw spinning skills! Single 1 tended to be overspun and lumpy but single 2 is looking more smooth. I'm still not where I'd like to be in terms of consistency but I'm so happy about the progress over last month!

Two singles of white yarn on bobbins sitting at right angles to each other on a colourful quilt. The right one is overspun and noticeably lumpy compared to the left one.

My July roundup for part one of TourDeFleece is now up for patrons. Lots of photos, behind the scenes info, and updates on other creative projects.

Also some love for elderly pets, both mine and my friends', who, like many of us who also have chronic illnesses, are struggling in this summer's heat.

Three wooden bobbins sit on a tensioned lazy kate (spool holder) with small samples of handspun wool yarn - cream cashmere, brown camel, and grey yak. An open ziplock bag full of yak fiber sits at the back of the white chest of drawers behind the yarn on the base of an Ashford yarn swift, next to the spinning wheel on the right.

Now that #tourdefleece is over, I join the olympics and start working on my tour the fleece resolution. Get that warp spun to make a rug.

I’ve been while . This is the first small bit ~ 16 grams that I plied today. Now I appreciate my even more and my respect for greatly increased. It is an excellent lightweight hobby for on the road.

Stage 21
No spinning today. Instead I spend it carding together all the last bits of fibre I have in the house. I have 4 shades of alpaca, 2 shades of silk noil, and some gold sparkle. I’ll have 20 batts of about 80g each when I’m done which I’ll put aside ready for the next spin.

Back tomorrow with the tour totals.

The lighting is not doing the colors any favors here, it's all washed out. But I skeined up my giant spindleful and am gonna give it a bath

Spinning continues, slowly. Enjoying the colour change in this braid from Fully Spun. (Yes, even though this one isn't spun yet 😅)

Stage 19
Time - 146 minutes
Weight - 86g
Watched - NCIS season 21 episode 10 and Firefly episodes 9/10/11

Finished all the available NCIS so back round to trying to finish Firefly before the end of the tour. Almost got this braid spun so hopefully should get to finish the spin and ply tomorrow.

One full green bobbin and one partially full green bobbin. The yarn is neon pinks and yellows.

It was too heavy to actually *drop* as a drop spindle and I had to just do a weird combo of twiddling it between my fingers and building up twist park and draft style

Remind me never to do a full 200g skein ever again

Drop spindle covered in lots of 2 ply multicolor yarn, completely dwarfing my adult female hand
