November 5, 2013: We got the best trail magic today. At Hogpen Gap we meet a lady who asked us if we needed anything. We mentioned we were looking for champagne for Springer, and since it was Sunday in Hiawassee we couldn't buy any. Later, when we got to the Neels Gap hostel, we found not only a bottle of champagne, but some food for dinner and a not saying she had hidden another bottle near Springer. Wow!
It was a good evening, eating the food and watching old VHS tapes on the small TV in the hostel. Only two days left.

We were hiking in NY, about five miles north of the Hudson, when the trail crossed the road at this store. Enjoying a cold drink in the parking lot, we were approached by a stranger who'd never met a thru-hiker before. She met us 10 miles away with food and drinks and then took us to dinner and offered to take us home and wash our clothes and let us get a shower. #TrailMagic #hiking

So that dairy farm I mentioned before? That’s where I stayed last night.

They let me take a shower in their main office then set me up in a conference room in an outbuilding where there’s a small break room with a sink and kettle, toilets (with washlet!) and a nice big warm dry place to roll out my mattress and sleep. And good Wi-Fi. I watched a movie.

All because I went to a random coffee shop almost 2 weeks ago 😻😻

I'm going to be near a popular stop on the Colorado trail with a good place to leave some #trailmagic

I was planning to pick up some Gatorade (blue unless they have cucumber lime) but I figured it was worth asking if any experienced hikers had a better idea. Looking for something pretty affordable as I hit up the dentist and the car mechanic this week lol.

Doing PCT trail magic at mile 456.7 today on the north end of Agua Dulce. 14 hikers already passed. Got sodas, popsicles, water, hiker box, wipes, and snacks.

Sidewall separated from the bead wire on my rear tire. Tried to boot it with a $5 bill. It miiiiiiiiight hold. But #TrailMagic happened and a farmer offered to let me use his car to drive to Timaru to pick up a new tire.

And the bike shop had my exact tire. 700x38c Schwalbe Marathon Plus.

And the truck took $42.42 worth of diesel. Because of course I’m going to fill it up for him.

I’m now grabbing some lunch and heading back out to replace the tire.

I want to go see snow in the Sierra, I want to go climb snow in the San Gabriels, but I need to help this trailhead in town.

The roadway into the trailhead parking is a mess, few cars are going up, so the #PCT here is getting overrun by motorcyclists (even had my windshield smashed last weekend).
