In response to Queen Victoria's love of Osborne House, railways were built that ran from Cowes to Newport and from Ryde to Ventnor. As if to underline the significance of the project, two rival companies, the LSWR and LBSC, collaborated to create a train network that was soon hailed as a triumph of public service over profitability and that ran from Ryde to Ventnor, Freshwater to Newport, Cowes to Ryde via Newport, Newport to Sandown and Merstone to Ventnor. All of this happened in 1860: Railways on the Isle of Wight by Mike Hutton from All-Aboard Games.

Hi - I'm Lachlan, and my latest nerd-snipe has cost like 6 months and counting.
I struggle having contiguous periods of time that I can play test, but get little blocks of it. So, I've built an implementation of MCTS in #Rust that can play various games. (I also learned Rust). The main reason is that I wanted to run simulations on Emu Bay Railway Company so I would hopefully be able to make it not broken and interesting.

It's a great irony that #TrainGames (both #BoardGames and #VideoGames ) are almost always about, or primarily about track.
The Gotthard Base Tunnel in the Swiss Alps is the longest train tunnel at over 57 km (35.5 miles) long. Opened in 2016, the majority of trains passing through it are freight trains: one of the biggest hopes behind its construction was to reduce the environmental impact and road dangers of heavy trucks.

I actually quite enjoy Southern Pacific. It's one of just a couple that I kept vs reselling after a handful of plays.
Best at 4, but try and learn to play at 3. I think it reveals it's secrets more easily then. I find 5p to just be sort of opaquely antagonistic as it can turn the game into 4v1 setup almost. As neat as that sounds, it's less interesting in practice.

I finally played my first #18xx game: Shikoku 1889 from Grand Trunk Games. We stopped in phase 5, but it was a lot of fun. We got a couple of things wrong, but it was relatively easy to learn. Thank you to @ambierona for the great rules teach video. 😃👍 #ccmf #boardgames #TrainGames

Anybody train gamin'? Feel like musing about train games?
Today (Oct 27) is the 20th anniversary of the release of #RailroadTycoon3, and there is still no true successor.
Depending on your timezone - today (2024-10-27) is the 20th anniversary of Railroad Tycoon 3 coming out. Sadly - as far as I can tell - there's nothing yet that has quite matched it.
There've been other transport games - Railway Empire, OpenTTD, Cities In Motion, Sid Meier's Railroads - but nothing else has had that rich economic model, and that feeling that I'm making financial business decisions rather than being a civil engineer.
