10 learnings about cycling in Serbia
1. Official cycle paths like Eurovelo 6, 11 & 13 in Serbia are basically federal highways
2. Serbians drive very dangerously, and they will honk to you a lot
3. therefore, sometimes, you might question your existence as a cyclist on Serbian roads (as well as your existence in general)
4. wearing a reflective vest and installing a safety noodle or something comparable on your bike might help to encourage car drivers to keep their distance
5. many Serbs are very hospitable
6. many Serbs are queerphobic (some people told me that you better don‘t show signs of your queerness in public if you want to be safe)
7. never go swimming without clothes, people will feel very offended, especially when they are Jehovah‘s Witnesses, they are even up to calling the police in order to get you arrested
8. Serbian puff pastries are very delicious
9. be aware of street dogs
10. there are very few stores to sell screw-in gas catridges in Serbia, Decathlon is one of them (4 stores in 3 cities in the whole country, so they are often out of stock); make sure you carry enough supply with you; if you pass through Belgrade you may be lucky to find
@primusequipment gas catridges in the little ProAlpin Outdoor stoor at street Terazije
