“It is fanciful to suggest that Ms Warner’s behaviour falls into the category of contempt.”
How many rape trials have been held on hold while government law officers wasted money and court time on this frivolous nonsense?

You can read the full judgment in #TrudiWarner’s important victory over the Solicitor General here. It confirms the principle of #juryequity and acknowledges that the difference between it being a “right” and a “power”, as put forward by the SG, is essentially a non-argument. #Righttoprotest #ClimateCrisis #TrialByJury

The Trudi Warner #contempt case brings to mind a significant so-called 'perverse' verdict from 1991.
Michael #Randle and Patrick #Pottle were charged with helping a spy escape from prison in 1963.
The judge told the jury the defendants had no defence. The jury knew they were guilty - the pair admitted it in a book - and yet the jury unanimously found them not guilty.

Today a letter signed by 300 people was delivered to Robert Courts, the solicitor general. Following actions across the country in 2023, including outside Oxford Crown Court, it requests that he prosecutes the signatories if he persists with prosecuting Trudi Warner.
Trudi Warner was arrested for standing outside Inner London Crown Court with a sign containing the same words as a plaque in the Old Bailey.

With the Trudi Warner case in the spotlight, it's worth backing up and looking at how we got here, and why Trudi Warner did what she did.
The English jury system has led to many climate protestors being acquitted, so the government, aided by certain judges like Silas Reid, are going to great lengths to try to stop juries from exercising their basic democratic rights. It's creeping fascism.

Yesterday, over 250 protestors stood outside courts in England and Wales, doing the same thing for which Trudi Warner is facing 2 years in prison. Holding up a sign stating a fact of law.

“In 2023 telling the truth is being treated as a criminal act, with people prosecuted for displaying facts in public, and imprisoned for explaining their motivations in their own defence in a court of law. I am deeply afraid of a world where truth, science and morality are not important, or where we are not free to fight for them.”

"If Michael Tomlinson KC, Solicitor General, hoped that prosecuting Trudi Warner, a 68 year old retired social worker from Walthamstow, East London would deter others, it’s not going to plan.
On Monday, 25 September, days after Mr Tomlinson announced his decision prosecute Ms Warner, 252 members of the public replicated her action outside criminal courts around the country, from Truro to Carlisle, from Swansea to the Old Bailey."
