When I first moved to India it felt difficult at times but I had to tell myself “you did this to yourself. Figure it out.”

Good article, but in my case (as a #twitterexpat ): No, I'm not asking for a #Twitter replacement. I like #mastodon community and the platform as it is. If It grows even more, the better. The several features different than #Twitter and the promising expansion/implementation of even more characteristics requested by its users (#opensource) is what makes mastodon competitive in concept and experience, and I like it so far.

A week in, I approach the common area. Beautiful graffiti covers the walls and friendly greetings are written in chalk on the cement.

A crowd gathers to watch as some take turns jumping in a huge, graceful jump rope. The music is good and loud.

I'm encouraged to take a turn. I stand at the edge, mimicking the motion of the rope with outstretched arms, trying to get the rhythm.

I jump!

I’ve been a Twitter user for about 16 years. My usage dropped off dramatically when I started having kids. I grew out of it. There are maybe 5 or 10 individuals I honestly care to see tweets from. Then the rest of my consumption is topical.
Beyond that, I don’t “use” Twitter. But I really enjoy the format, the constraint, the short feedback and engagement loops.
So here I am on mastodon.

Mastodon feels more like a curated forum vs a standard social media site. I know if still qualifies as social media, but not like Twitter or Facebook are social media.
