#UXFail

Rarely have I seen the UX designed by a major tech company fail so spectacularly as the #Android media controls for headphones.

Clicking the play button when paused should resume whatever I was listening to last. But instead it often does nothing, or plays something else I was listening to in a different app previously. Also connecting to Android auto shouldn't auto-play. I don't have hope any of this being fixed.

There is apparently a product manager at LinkedIn / Microsoft getting big bucks for coming up with different labels to put on their login and register buttons, not to mention changing the buttons' arrangement, size, and decorations. Because nothing says "user-friendly" more than making the buttons say something different every time you access a website!
(The non-English buttons were totally displayed on the English site, so I guess that's just a bug.)

A collection of login and register buttons captured recently from LinkedIn, including "Resume your journey", "Member login", "Welcome back", "Access account", "Login", "Sign in", "Join now", "Register now", "Join for free", "Create an account", "Join now for free", and two buttons in Chinese or some other Asian language. The buttons are different heights, some are white with a blue border and some are blue with no border, one is grey lettering with no border, sometimes the sign-in button is on the left and the registration button is on the right and sometimes the reverse.

The things you find on Amazon are both funny and disappointing.

I’ve seen far more ridiculous examples than this, but I thought I’d share one I came across recently.

The screenshot is from a product page for an audio cable.

What weird stuff have you encountered on Amazon?

1.5m cable or 3 months?

Just accidentally said “Let’s double-click on that” during a family dinner. My dad asked if I’d joined a cult. My niece googled it. My mom prayed. Tech lingo is not user-friendly outside Zoom. 🍽️🧠

This all reminds me of how silly the 80% charging limit is.

Instead of waiting for your phone to naturally degrade to 80% battery capacity after four or five years, you choose to have a shitty experience right away with your brand-new device.

Some people do this because they think they’ll use their phone for longer than that, or because they don’t want to spend the $80 on a replacement battery and would rather live with battery anxiety.

What a bad trade.

Okay, I’ve never had such deep thoughts about Low Power Mode before, but I agree with this take on the iPhone Air and its Low Power Mode.

It’s kind of a defeat of technological progress. What’s the point of all the features if the user is constantly anxious about low battery and ends up disabling the very features they paid a premium for?

Why do you need a ultra thin phone, when you need to carry a heavy external battery with you as well?

Anyone else see the window for the Music app on #macOS26Tahoe not remembering its position or size after quitting and restarting the app? It’s a ridiculous bug and is a really awful #UX.

100% reproducible for me on macOS 26.1. Anyone know if macOS 26.2 fixes it?

@missbrainslug Yes, but if the doors are open, so the sign is no more visible, so a car can go in it.
So this is useless, isn't it ?

Incredible how I can send a microwave into space to find aliens but still need five different apps to reschedule a dentist appointment. Disruption only works if your teeth are optional. 🦷📱🚀

The #citibank #singapore website is an absolute goldmine of #uxfail.
Want to login? Scan a QR code with the app.. Then enter an OTP code sent via SMS (because that's secure). Now you're logged in, you're thinking that must be it. Oh you sweet summer child.

Now try to view your official monthly card statement. One more QR code to scan! One more SMS OTP to enter! Now dance, monkey. Dance.

I understand that most companies ship their Organization structure in software and Banks are the pinnacle of Conway's law, but how did anybody sign off on this absurd dance?

A Bus Ride and the (At Least) 3x UX FAILs

Norway is digital to a fault. That is why attempting to buy the ticket for a bus ride can reveal a cascade of user experience (UX) failures
