#Firefox doesn't "balance a little marketing": in the screenshot provided by @firefoxwebdevs@mastodon.social you can see at least two #DarkPatterns at work:

As it stands, and given the alternatives, Mozilla #UX is overly malicious and I guess it would not pass any serious #GDPR compliance check.

I guess it's because those model are updated frequently from #BigTech's servers around the world and Mozilla doesn't want people to realize how often their online status is revealed to such corporations through update checks by their " #privacy friendly" Firefox AI.

How would I proceed if I wanted to find out if #Google processes my personal data based on an anonymous contract which I had to enter into in order to use my Android TV cable box (not connected to my Google account)?
And how can I retract from that contract (which the Google terms allow for) separate from any of my Google accounts?

Why is it acceptable for businesses to trick customers into buying things they don't want? Where is the respect?
To me it is theft to trick someone into paying me for something they don't want by whatever means, so I wouldn't dream of doing it. But apparently this is acceptable business practice.
Reminded by #IdealHomeMagazine auto subscribing at full price after a trial period and making cancellation much harder than anything they want you to do. #DarkPatterns
trying to read online articles i'm again so utterly pissed off disappointed by my own guild of #webdevs who sold their fucking souls to the most terrible UIs imaginable just to trick everyone into advertisements #darkpatterns (and yes of course I know about adblocks but this is what the majority of folks are being presented with :blobcatangry: )
I wonder if there's a psychological price that a web developer has to overcome to make a non-trivial web page with no pop-ups of any kind. It seems like a compulsion.
At least in the way I use computers as a low vision person, pop-ups are extraordinarily anti-accessibility. Yes, even tooltips and alt-hovertext, depending on how they're done. Some websites are close to unusable because of these things.
