We hope you had a meaningful All Saints’ Day weekend. In that spirit, did you know that Malacañang has its own horror stories (literally) about ghosts strolling or dancing in its halls and corridors? Watch this video from Radio Television Malacañang.

Tuesday, November 4, is pivotal for the American city that never sleeps. The democratic-socialist Zohran Mamdani is on the brink of making history as the youngest mayor of New York in recent history, and its first Muslim leader. The 34-year-old rapper-turned-frontrunner has taken New York City by storm as he campaigned on radical policies that will hurt the wealthy — from hiking corporate taxes to increasing publicly subsidized housing — and have put the Democratic Party in a bind. Still, former US president Barack Obama offered to be his “sounding board.”

US President Donald Trump, meanwhile, ended his Asian tour with a trade truce, however fragile, with China.

MOUNTAIN PROVINCE, Philippines – The air was cold and gray, as it always is in Sagada on All Saints’ Day.

My family had just arrived from Baguio when the mass at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin began. Inside the century-old stone church, pews were filled with families listening intently as the names of the departed — those resting in the town’s Episcopal cemetery — were read aloud, one by one. Some of those names belonged to my own kin, whose graves we would soon visit. Outside, the familiar drizzle had stopped. It was time to hike up to the hill where memory meets fire.

Panag-apoy, which in Kankana-ey means “to light a fire,” is Sagada’s way of honoring the dead. After the afternoon Mass, the priest lights the first flame at the cemetery and passes it to the waiting community. Each family carries saeng — bundles of resinous pinewood — to the cemetery, where they kindle small bonfires beside the graves of their loved ones. The fire’s warmth and smoke blend with the fog, creating an ethereal glow that wraps the mountain in light and remembrance.

There are no mausoleums here, no marble angels or grand tombs, just whitewashed crosses, some hand-painted, some leaning with age. The priests bless each grave as he or she walks down the slope, the scent of pine and smoke thick in the air. Youth follow their parents, carrying heavy bundles of wood on their shoulde

MANILA, Philippines – Every year, on the last week of October, many Filipinos travel far to honor and pay respect to their departed loved ones during Undas.

Over the years, this yearly ritual has evolved alongside changing travel habits — blending remembrance with recreation, as Filipinos find ways to honor the past while enjoying a well-deserved break.

A survey conducted by MOVE, AirAsia’s online travel agent, revealed where Filipinos are headed this Undas. Unsurprisingly, the top picks remain local destinations — from provinces and beach spots to bustling cities in the metro.

Domestic travel habits

According to the survey, more than 80% of air travelers are flying to different parts of the country, with Manila, Caticlan (gateway to Boracay), Cebu, Iloilo, and Tacloban as the most popular destinations. Manila’s inclusion is largely attributed to the Manila North Cemetery — one of the largest cemeteries in Metro Manila where over 100,000 departed are buried. Around 2 million visitors are expected there from October 30 to November 1 (All Saints’ Day).

According to AirAsia MOVE data, among those who booked flights Oct 30- Nov 2, at least 81% are traveling domestically, while 19% are heading abroad. The data includes other carriers and not just that of AirAsia. #travel #tourism #Philippines #Undas #AllSaintsDay #longweekend

The cemeteries in the Philippines get extremely busy during the first two days of November. Similar to other Hispanic and Catholic-centric regions around the world, there are superstitions involving the spirits of the dead. After visiting the tombs of family members, many Filipinos walk through smoke to cleanse themselves of any spirits that may follow them home. #undas
