Pre-Pulp Fiction / Sister Havana fame. A time when I believed in rock music and its transformation into something new. Faroutski is a jam.

Musically speaking, me and the 90s didn't really see eye-to-eye. I spent most of that decade with my head buried deep in stacks of dusty vintage rock/jazz/soul/r&b records, ignoring most of what passed for "modern" rock/indie pop of that time. (Hip-hop was another matter entirely; in hindsight, rap was THE defining sound of the 90s).
But somehow #UrgeOverkill bypassed all that: I always loved UO more than life itself. And so of course I sported one of these babies high on my car antenna . . . at least until some asshole broke in and stole my car stereo, taking my UO ball for his troubles :(

One of my favorite #90s bands who have continued to make really good records in their latter days.
Oui is the second of their “reunion” records, and is TOTAL UO.
Opening the album with a George Michael cover was an odd choice, but it’s pretty great, and sets the stage for a run of great rock songs.

I realize Urge Overkill were very polarizing in #Chicago, often to hilarious degrees. Luckily my one moment with them was sweet.
This is them after playing Jabberjaw in Los Angeles in 1991.

Although early discs on Touch & Go gave this Chicago trio cred in the alt-rock scene, Saturation owed more to 70s stalwarts like Thin Lizzy and the adrenalized power pop of Cheap Trick. “Sister Havana,” “Positive Bleeding” and “Bottle of Fur” rock hard, like a Trans-Am hitting the turnpike.
