Their policies allowed some wonderful people to be part of the student body at the academical village. And now the government is forcing all that to change.

The University of Virginia is the first public university to reach a deal with the Trump administration, agreeing to DOJ guidelines barring unlawful racial discrimination in admissions, hiring, and programming. Unlike previous cases with Columbia and Brown, UVA won’t pay a settlement or have an external monitor—just quarterly DOJ updates through 2028. In return, the Trump administration will pause probes into UVA’s admissions and civil rights policies and close its DEI-related investigations. UVA’s leadership says the agreement protects academic freedom and fair funding, highlighting the ongoing fight over federal influence on campus policy.
