Sadly, this idea doesn't seem to translate to wasm, but that's probably because V8 doesn't generate the most efficient instructions for a combo of __builtin_ctz and wasm_i8x16_bitmask.
Ideally it should use “vshrn” as per this article https://community.arm.com/arm-community-blogs/b/servers-and-cloud-computing-blog/posts/porting-x86-vector-bitmask-optimizations-to-arm-neon

Just got my first patch merged into the #V8 #javascript engine today. It was a very small change in code, but caused serious performance uplift - an average of ~4% over a number of #webassembly benchmarks, some of which was even over 20%!

Compiling V8 on Windows is a pain. I've successfully done so before. But over a year, the source code changes a lot, as does what one must do to compile it. While I compiled it a couple of days ago, there were some vital functions I could not link to.
