5/5 V&A Storehouse

The first fitted #kitchen from Frankfurt in 1926. Designed by Margarete (Grete) Schütte-Lihotzky and seen as radically #modernist at the time. Wonderful to see it so well displayed at #VAStorehouse

A mid-century modern kitchen featuring sage green cabinets with glass-fronted upper cabinets displaying vintage dishware. The kitchen has warm peach-colored square tile backsplash, a wall-mounted plate rack, and built-in drawers with glass fronts. A stainless steel sink is mounted under the backsplash with exposed wall-mounted faucets. The design showcases kitchen cabinetry with simple rectangular hardware and a functional, efficient layout typical of the era.A narrow galley kitchen featuring sage green cabinets and drawers along the right wall, with warm beige tile flooring and backsplash. A vintage-style stove sits on the left, while the right side includes a stainless steel sink and upper cabinets with glass fronts displaying cookware. A simple wooden chair sits at a small desk area beneath a window at the far end. A spherical pendant light hangs from the ceiling, and a doorway on the left leads to another room. The space has a mid-century modern aesthetic with its muted color palette and clean lines

3/5 V&A Storehouse

Here's something that would be hard to show at the main V&A. This is a stage backdrop - which is a #Picasso design, though someone else painted at a scale that fills a special room two stories of the building.

A large theatrical backdrop painting displayed in a darkened gallery space, showing two figures running or dancing against a vibrant blue sky. The neoclassical-style figures wear flowing white and gray drapery, depicted in earth-toned flesh colors. They move dynamically across a dark landscape with mountains visible in the background. The artwork is painted on a textured, cream-colored canvas with visible wear and aging, mounted on a concrete or stone-like wall and dramatically lit from above by gallery spotlights.

2/5 V&A Storehouse

A wooden dome from a palace in Torrijos, Spain. It was built in 1490. I had to lie on the floor to get this shot.

Overhead view of an intricately carved 15th-century wooden ceiling dome featuring an octagonal central star pattern with elaborate geometric Islamic designs. The coffered ceiling displays multiple layers of carved wooden panels radiating outward from the center, with intricate arabesque and geometric motifs throughout. The corners contain decorated triangular sections with calligraphic elements in red and cream tones. The entire composition is framed by an ornately carved border with repeating geometric patterns. The wood shows rich brown tones with detailed relief carving creating dramatic shadows and depth.

1/5 V&A Storehouse

London's Victoria and Albert Museum have opened a new building in the Olympic Park near me in E London. The Storehouse is a warehouse for storing exhibits that is open to the public. There are a few permanent things that are too big or tricky to install on the main site, lots of other items that no doubt will change and you can order up exhibits to study. This first shot shows a general view.

"Multi-story museum archive with visible storage collections on three levels. Glass-walled display cases and artifacts line both sides of wide corridors. Visitors walk through the central space examining exhibits, while natural light filters through a translucent ceiling. The industrial-style architecture features exposed beams and modern materials creating an open, transparent repository."
This appears to be a "visible storage" style museum facility, where collections are stored in an accessible, educational way rather than hidden in traditional closed archives.
