Letter to Toronto City Council RE Motion CC34.3 (155 Saint Dennis Drive - Appeal of Ontario Land Tribunal Decision)

Good afternoon, members of City Council.

I am writing to express my opposition to the City of Toronto's plan to appeal the Ontario Land Tribunal decision regarding 155 Saint Dennis Drive. Not only would such an appeal waste taxpayer dollars, but the current development proposal would help future proof development of the East Don Trail (Phase 3) along with providing high density housing near the Eglinton Crosstown LRT and Ontario Line transit routes. This Phase 3 trail would connect the existing Phase 2 trail from Wigmore Park to the Wynford Drive access trail with the Phase 1 trail from Taylor Creek to Bermondsey Road which is nearing completion. Upon completion of the Phase 3 trail, people would be able to use the Don Valley trail system to get from the Waterfront to Lawrence Avenue, though a further northern extension would be needed to connect with the Betty Sutherland Trail.

Please do not appeal the 155 Saint Dennis Drive decision and instead, let's focus on building out Toronto's citywide trail network.

Bloor St. between Dundas St. West and Perth Ave. was closed to automobiles this afternoon due to an Enterprise rental truck crashing in to the West Toronto Railpath bridge. The 158 Symington bus had to be diverted too. Fortunately, pedestrians on the sidewalk and cyclists in the bike lane could still get through.

I chased down a Toronto Beck taxi that blew threw a crosswalk. He was the second car to do it, when a pedestrian was already crossing. His passenger chirped in to defend the driver claiming there was a big blind spot.

My dude. You're sitting in the back seat of a sedan. I don't expect you to read the road. The professional driver though?

There was not only a pedestrian halfway across the street, she was walking her big purple bicycle, was accompanied by a crossing guard wearing a high viz vest and holding a giant stop sign, and yellow lights were blinking.

If you can't see any of those things get off the damn road.
