#WilliamBendix (1906-1964) was #BornOnThisDay.

He was a familiar face in more than 50 films and an Oscar nominee for #WakeIsland (1942), but I know him best as the star of #TheLifeOfRiley!

"The Blue Dahlia" (1946) 2/4 - I imagine #AlanLadd and #VeronicaLake as two automatons in a Daft Punk show, but where their mechanicalness compliments the icy remove of "This Gun For Hire" (1942), the star-pairing here feels underdeveloped; that - somewhere - makes sense insofar as this is an original #RaymondChandler script. The standout performance belongs to #WilliamBendix, and it is his character’s subjective auditory experiences, related to PTSD, that feel uncommon for the period. #Noir
