The XPT only arrived 5 minutes after it was supposed to depart this morning so I guess its no surprise we're stopped just past Picton when we're supposed to be at Central.

Getting the train from Sydney down to Melbourne last Tuesday, was pretty chuffed to see 3 XPTs (squint harder!) and all lined up at Central. Of course an Xplorer had to photo bomb tho'.

On the XPT sleeper train back to Melbourne, and I seem to have the compartment to myself. First time ever! Also it appears we'll leave on time, which is novel.

Leaving Sydney Central on another epic #XPT jaunt. Wish me luck....

Speed restrictions on the track due to the condition of the viaduct and because of heavy rains last week. Remind me again, how rich is Australia and this is the express service between the two biggest cities, right? #XPT

Okay, I'm gonna live toot this trip to Sydney. It's already feeling epic. We woke up at 6 to get to Southern Cross stn in Melbourne by local train by 7:30. The luggage loading supposedly ending at 8am.
It's now 8:30 and the train isn't even here yet. #XPT

As I travel on the #XPT through the NSW Central Coast (pouring rain!) I am struck by how well maintained the general rail infrastructure is - by no means perfect, but to a layman’s eye a serious step up on Victoria. The second leg of my east coast train odyssey from Sydney to Brisbane commences. Same class of train #XPT. Leaving Sydney in heavy rain I have the twinette sleeper cabin to myself AND the cabin has a working power point!

@AWStephen the sound of the fighting cats trapped in the walls near the bogies as the #XPT wobbles its way along the poorly maintained rails between NSW and Victoria really helps lull you to sleep.

The #XPT is now 42 yo and past their scheduled replacement date and it really does show. The whole experience is “poverty pack”, with no option prepackaged ( good effort at environmentally friendly) everything. Very basic and run down feeling albeit fairly clean.
