@tynstar I'm sure I'll get used to it, still disappointing though. The #kinesis #advantage360 shows how small you can make those leds. So i don't really buy the bulkyness argument.
Let's hope the firmware catches up to allow configuring the keyswitch LEDs sometime soon. But doesn't seem too promising right now.

I'm feeling very frustrated today. I needed to write a lot of code fast, and I can't. The arrows still feel wrong, so code navigation sucks.
But the worst mistake was placing esc under my left ring finger, lowest row, between backtick and square bracket. Esc being between printable characters used a lot in code, I press it accidentally A LOT and close my IDE's terminal window in the middle of writing a command.

Typing code is still hard. I remember where the symbols are but I'm very slow finding them. I often misjudge whether I'm back on home row or a row below that. I still wish there were bumps on f/j!
Code navigation is still hard too. I often use alt/cmd + arrows to move, and I keep struggling to find alt or cmd without looking. My chosen arrow layout is also tricky (on one row: left up down right).

After the arrow and modifiers remapping, I'm trying to use the keyboard the whole day, for basic tasks.
My main problem now is that I only know my favorite keyboard shortcuts by muscle memory, which doesn't work on a new keyboard with a different layout. For example, in WebStorm, I always use "add cursor and select next occurrence", and I only remember that the shortcut uses the letter G, but not which modifiers...

Time to try some remapping:
- two cmds, two alts, and one ctrl like on a macbook keyboard because most mac shortcuts rely on cmds and alts,
- alts get the most comfortable position because I use them a lot to type special DE and PL letters,
- all arrows on one side for easier text selection,
- capslock in its original position because I use it a lot for VoiceOver navigation,
- no need for forward-delete (AKA delete) because ctrl+d does the job

I keep accidentally pressing backspace (left thumb) instead of space (right thumb), constantly removing characters that I have already typed correctly ðŸ˜

- I can't type
- why are there no bumps on f and j?
- only one alt and one cmd but two ctrls? that's the opposite of what I need
- how am I supposed to do my cmd+alt+ctrl keyboard shortcuts now that all of those keys are assigned to thumbs? I only have two thumbs
- how am I supposed to select text (shift + arrows) when the arrows are split between two hands? (l/r on the left and u/d on the right)
My #Kinesis #Advantage360 Pro with linear quiet switches arrived today (replacing my ~20 yr old Kinesis Contoured USB).
Holy 🤯, the typing experience is so much more pleasant!
Some physical layout changes (improvements, I'd say) mean I'll be swearing for a week while I adjust, but this was worth every cent.

After watching that video, making a custom keyboard macropad seems really achievable. Then I realized, I could replace not _just_ the missing Escape key, but the entire missing row of function/media keys, and have it fit nicely onto the top edge of the #Advantage360
Although that curve would be a !@#$! to reproduce accurately.
I dunno that I want to go through the effort, but I'm very tempted, & I'd like to try making a PCB just to learn how.
@ringtailringo Thanks for the info! I admit shift was the biggest problem (and I was on QMK). But when home row mods worked it was pretty great. My #Advantage360 is on ZMK, so I'll have to give it another try.
It only occurred to me just now that I can simply swap the up and down arrow keys. Even the keycaps are identical so can be swapped.
Why they would by default do the opposite than vi's j and k is beyond me. Sacrilege.
Ok, I have a plan.
I am choosing between the #advantage360 and the #Glove80 . I am currently leaning towards the Glove80.
I will get better at #vim . I will use #adventofcode to get better at vim. Before Christmas my money will be a bit tighter as I will be buying gifts for people. After Christmas and News Years, my money situation will be better since my normal money will arrive by Jan 2nd, and I'll probably have extra cash from gifts. <cont.>
My #MoErgo #Glove80 came today. I instantly replaced the wired kinesis that I was using as a backup, swapped _most_ of the keys for black ones, and started generating a custom keymap.
EVERYTHING about the process was nicer than the #Kinesis #Advantage360 pro.
Now that I’ve got my custom keymap set up switching to it is surprisingly painless. AND I have more keys so i don't have to do stupid stuff with the escape key.
Although, it doesn't come with a capslock key cap which is...weird.

my "n" key has stopped working.
Fortunately i keep old keyboards so I've switched back to the advantage 2.
It's still under warranty, and I'll get it fixed, but this is the straw that broke this camel's back. I'm ordering a #Moergo Glove80
I've been using #macOS since the first release of #OSX, so I’m always pleasantly surprised to discover something new. I frequently ⌘Tab between apps and often overshoot. While holding the ⌘ key, ⇧Tab goes back. But that uncomfortable.
Just today, I bumped the ` (backtick) key while ⌘Tabbing, and to my surprise it went backward! That’s much easier that ⌘⇧Tab.
I actually have ⌘⇧Tab programmed into my #Advantage360 just for this purpose. Now I can use that key for something else.
