A friend asked me to make a couple of " Beach Bags" for her granddaughters for Christmas. This is what I came up with. Since beach days around here are about six months away, I went for gym or pool bag. They are made from waterproof canvas and quilting cotton. The design is mine. They have recessed zippers and an interior slip pocket, as well as a key lanyard.
I love how the cat wall climber looks like a designer bag store!

Left behind for someone to finish or dismantle the whole thing. Hopefully former, I suppose I'll never know. 😅

I started this with the idea to use up donated buttons that were starting to take over, the gradient didn't quite come out as good as I'd hoped, but the image doesn't fully do it justice.

I made a travel wallet for a young friend heading off the Great Britain shortly. I decided a little Canadian identity was needed. It ended up with more than a little Canadian identity. The pattern is "The Globetrot travel Sling" by ChrisW Designs. I made the right handed version. It is intended to be worn under your coat.

My water bottle bag is finished! It's the most complicated bag pattern I've tried and I love the results. The front pocked can hold my phone so I'm happy. Pattern: H2O 2GO water bottle sling. #sewing #bagmaking

Long time no share! Or more like long time no finished projects.

I found this pattern from the UK sewing magazine Simply Sewing through my library's Overdrive service, and it was just what I'd been looking for! I've had the checked fabric for some time now, and the lining is the same fabric I used to make the zero waste dress I finished earlier this year. Both second hand and originally a table cloth and a duvet cover.

I'm not 100% happy with these and will most likely have to go back to make some changes (like re-stitch some of those seams by hand because I unpicked a bit to get the lining and main to be separate and therefore lost the backstitch and to take pinking shears on those curved edges). I also recently re-taught myself how to make zipper pockets so I used the method here!

I just love gingham fabric so I'm happy to have a bag made with it. 😌

I'm on a roll, I made another bag. This one is called "The Retreat Bag", and has a frame to hold it open. The fabric is custom "solar punk" fabric I purchased from @moraghickman .
I've been saving it for a special bag, and this one will be a tool bag for a newly graduated computer engineer. Now to add some tools for her.

I doubt I’ll be making anymore like this in the near future since I’ve estimated that each bag takes ~3.5-4 hours total to complete, not counting choosing which fabric from my gifted stash to use. A question for the bag makers out there.

I keep making bags because I believe it's important to do quicker one-day projects. I mostly recycle jeans.

Now, my question is, do you believe bag-making courses and books have actually added value to your bag making process? And, if it's not against the group's rules, can you please recommend some?

For today I have booked a Personal day (something my employer gives in addition to holidays). I call it Self-care Day, which in my case is about making something - it makes depression go away.

So, I've made this little bag. It's mostly from recycled denim and a bit of polycotton. It was fun.

I think it's important to do quick one-day projects in addition to longer ones, to keep motivation going.
