@chu Well...there's a few other things that can be included from that timeframe. Look at the late 1800s: Asians - Chinese in particular - were targeted by legislation from both Canada and the US.
For Canadians, that meant Chinese persons couldn't vote, were subjected to head taxes, and all kinds of public statements were recorded by politicians along the lines of protecting white Canada.
For the United States, there's case law from that time that spells out that Asians, Indians, and other persons of colour were basically aliens. As such, these persons could not vote, and could not provide testimony in court as witnesses to crimes.
For some part, the social environment changed when the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights was made, and countries began to adopt it. But, this came at a significant price since many coloured people served in militaries around the world, paying their way to franchisement in blood.
I suppose the point isn't to just reduce human life to abject misery. We're all under a Rule of Law that evolved from dark times in human history. I hope it's not lost to people that rights expressed in Constitutions around the world were paid for in lives. These rights are re-affirmed by all of us in today's terms because going backward to those times is offensive.
What's going on in the US in 2025 was built upon history. And, whether you live in the US or not, we should be offended on behalf of those who are disappeared on the streets by ICE. We should be offended in solidarity that people in the US are denied their Due Process rights.
It doesn't matter why people in the US are being disappeared.
