Focus on the number. This is the percentage of income spent on taxes. It means that everything a Brazilian worked for from January 1st until May 29th this year went exclusively to pay taxes.
This figure is alarming when compared to other countries. In Brazil, we pay some of the highest taxes in the world, yet the return we receive in terms of public services such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and security is far below the most minimum expectations. While citizens fulfill their obligations, the government continuously fails to deliver basic services with efficiency and transparency.
To make matters worse, almost every day brings news of a new corruption scandal or case of public fund mismanagement. This undermines trust in institutions and raises serious questions about where our money is actually going.
Meanwhile, President Lula and his allies are more focused on silencing social media than governing, spends his energy trying to control the platforms where his political contradictions are exposed. Instead of addressing the system’s structural failures, the priority seems to be censorship and image management aiming next year's elections.
