In Mossflower Wood, before Redwall Abby, the woodlanders try to live out of the way of the kingdom of Kotir. That is until the viscous Tsarmina takes power. And wages war.

Mossflower is a well told story. Tons of characters, but all fun ones. Even a genuinely disturbing villain. You even feel bad for her lackeys, tho they are truly evil too.
