The Chicken in freeze-dried meals isn't great. Instead, hop over to your Costco and get some of their leftover Roasted Chicken, cut it up, vacuum seal it then freeze it.

When you go to boil your water for your freeze-dried meals, thow the unopened vacuumed sealed pouch in the water to heat up.

Works great for veggies, too!

For safety, make sure your food remains cold until reheated.

A vacuum sealer pulls the air out of a package containing already cooked broccoli crowns. A few ice cubes are in the vacuum sealed bag as well so that when the broccoli is reheated moisture will be added back in.

Vacuum ceiling bags of fully cooked, roasted chicken from Costco along with a vacuum sealed bag of fully cooked snap peas and a vacuum sealed bag full of fully cooked broccoli.

The reliably cheapest place to buy Peak Refuel at the moment is Sierra (Trading Post) in the US.

An important caveat here: Peak Refuel is GREAT if you're very active (hiking, backpacking, Nordic Skiing, snowshoeing, etc) because it's easy to get your replacement calories without stuffing yourself.

If you're lazing about your campsite, or using it as emergency food, this may not be ideal.

I committed a cardinal camping sin. I took my manual can opener into the house and forgot to return it to the camping stuff. Thus I found myself in a remote campground with a can of beans and no opener. However, I did have a hammer and tent stakes.

I have cleaned up after cooking many times but this is the first time I wiped bean juice off a claw hammer.
