#Breaking Kilmar Abrego Garcia is reportedly on a plane heading back to the US. The Trump administration say they're bringing him back to the US to face charges stemming from a 2022 traffic stop which allegedly revealed that Abrego Garcia may have been transporting a van full of undocumented migrants.

Not sure why they guy had to be sent to a torture camp in El Salvador before facing these charges.

The ruling did not expressly order the #Trump admin to bring the hundreds of #Venezuelans currently being held in #CECOT a mega-prison in #ElSalvador back to the #US.

In his ruling, #Boasberg wrote that the individuals were deported without adequate notice or the right to contest their removals.

“That process—which was improperly withheld—must now be afforded to them,” Boasberg wrote.

During the civil war that decimated the country in the 1980s, the US denied legal entry to the vast majority of people fleeing the violence even as it funded, trained, and provided material support for the military dictatorship (...) But hundreds of thousands of Salvadorans still managed to relocate to the US (...)
After the war ended with the Chapultepec Peace Accords in 1992, the US, having just helped rip their country to pieces, expedited the process of deporting these young men back. Weakened by years of clientelism, corruption, and violence, El Salvador was hardly ready to receive them or reroute them into the formal economy. Extraordinary levels of gang violence soon gripped the country. Unlike the US, however, El Salvador doesn’t have an El Salvador to dump the people it deems disposable. So it built a CECOT."
