Dubious about the practicality of this #AIMonocle, but he's right on the convergence of #5G connectivity, #AR glasses and AI revolutionizing our way of interacting with #ComputerSystems.

“RizzGPT basically uses AI to provide you charisma on demand, and so it listens to your current ongoing conversation, and it tells you exactly what to say next,” said Chiang.

#Flyvbjerg and #DGardner's book on projects has a lot of insight about why #ComputerSystems and #IT projects fail so often ,but the most interesting point is the critical role of #modularity as the great David #Parnas pointed out a long time ago.

One of the striking things I see in modern #Academic #ComputerSystems discussion is a high level of unearned sneering. You know "Those morons who developed X (some widely used complex and highly productive system) were ignorant of basic principles like those exhibited in this in-preparation paper from Stanford" etc.

Anyone interested in #Systems or #ComputerSystems should read the problem set at the US Digital Service. Anyone can build a giant complex system from scratch, but can you deal with incorporating nightmare legacy systems ? Not me.

If I were to do a #ComputerSystems series on #PapersIHate, it might start with
1. A fork in the road
2. Paxos Made Simple (the first Paxos paper is too awful to even complain about)
3. Fischer-Lynch-Paterson
4. The priority inheritance paper
5. Hans Boehm's synchronization white paper
