It still hits me, even though I haven't had a WWW browser that displays images progressively, or a connection speed that low, for decades; *and* even though I'm old enough to know the quite different thing that the picture is referencing. (-:

There was a time when you paid by the minute to get online, and you downloaded info at the then-blazing speed of 1200 bits per second. (Roughly 260,000 times slower than what I have today, if I did the math right.) We really had to watch our budget.

I remember the early days of for me: connecting, syncing email, opening a bunch of threads (mostly on art site) and other sites, and submitting replies I had prepared beforehand to ones I'd opened the previous time.
