Die Nacht war finster. Donner dröhnte und gelegentlich zerriss ein Blitz das Dunkel. Auf ihrem Lager erwachte die Bestie aus unruhigen Träumen. Lauschte. Hob schlaftrunken den Kopf und streckte die Glieder. Gähnte. Lauschte wieder. Perfekte Jagdbedingungen! Im einsetzenden Regen verließ sie die Höhle. Langsam, mit den fließenden Bewegungen einer Schnecke schob sie sich ins Dunkel, verschmolz mit den Schatten. Lautlos näherte sie sich der Beute. Das Pfeifen des Windes wurde lauter.
Etwas quietschte. Die Bestie erstarrte, gefangen in jäh aufflammenden Licht.
Aus dem Licht kam die Stimme der Mutter: „Na, Schatz, kannst du auch nicht schlafen? Auch ein Stück Kuchen?“
