Passengers at #London #Euston will see a series of upgrades this spring as Network Rail continues improvements at one of the UK’s busiest stations. From 2 March, the Assisted Travel Lounge will be refurbished, increasing seating from 18 to 27 and upgrading lighting, flooring, furniture and information screens. During the works, assistance will operate from a temporary area near platforms 11 and 12.

A two-week trial of adverts on the outer panels of the main departures screen will begin, with the central section reserved for train information. Any revenue will be reinvested.

Later in March, a new customer service hub will open on the concourse, bringing staff together in one visible location. Additional seating will also be added on the concourse and mezzanine, including improvements to the quiet lounge.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen #Euston station quite so quiet!

A major milestone has been reached on HS2 with the launch of the first tunnel boring machine to dig towards #Euston from Old Oak Common. The 1,624-tonne machine will construct one of two 4.5-mile tunnels bringing the high-speed railway into central #London. The move is seen as vital to unlocking HS2’s full economic benefits, with estimates suggesting development around Euston could add £41 billion to the #UK #economy by 2053 and support 34,000 jobs. The start of tunnelling follows wider progress on the route between London and Birmingham, including completed tunnels, bridges and viaducts. Ministers said the milestone shows renewed confidence in delivering HS2 to Euston, while #HS2 Ltd said the work reflects a wider reset of the project to ensure safe, efficient delivery and improved rail capacity.

Euston railway station is a major central London railway terminus and connected London Underground station managed by Network Rail in the London Borough of Camden. It is the southern terminus of the West Coast Main Line, the UK's busiest inter-city railway. Euston is the tenth-busiest station in Britain and the country's busiest inter-city passenger terminal, being the gateway from London to the West Midlands, North West England, North Wales and Scotland.

London is the capital and largest city of both England and the United Kingdom, with a population of 9.1 million people in 2024. Its wider metropolitan area is the largest in Western Europe, with a population of 15.1 million. London stands on the River Thames in southeast England, at the head of a 50-mile (80 km) tidal estuary down to the North Sea, and has been a major settlement for nearly 2,000 years. Its ancient core and financial centre, the City of London, was founded by the Romans as Londinium and has retained its medieval boundaries. The City of Westminster, to the west of the City of London, has been the centuries-long host of the national government and parliament. London grew rapidly in the 19th century, becoming the world's largest city at the time. Since the 19th century the name "London" has referred to the metropolis around the City of London, historically split between the counties of Middlesex, Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire, which since 1965 has largely comprised the administrative area of Greater London, governed by 33 local authorities and the Greater London Authority.

The image is a black-and-white photograph of a steam locomotive at a train station, likely in the early 20th century. The locomotive is a large, black steam engine with a prominent smokestack and a number "1368" visible on its side. The train is stationed at a platform, and a man in a uniform and hat is standing beside it, possibly a train driver or station staff. The train appears to be pulling a series of passenger carriages, which are also black and have a vintage design. The station itself has a large, arched roof structure with visible beams and supports. The platform is made of wood and extends alongside the train. The image has a caption at the bottom that reads "RR TRAIN GREAT BRITAIN," suggesting the location or the railway company. The overall scene evokes a sense of historical transportation and infrastructure.

Obviously a major train station in August would have a working water dispense point. Obviously.

Unless it was .

I realised that diverting from Lover's Lane to the Folly Brook might have been a mistake. When? Why, when the walls of #Euston started #screaming
