Took a while to get the chubby #ewes out of the paddock & into the yards for preg scanning tomorrow. I wonder how many lambs are on the way?

Around 40 ewes standing & looking at you from inside two steel yards under bottlebrushes & autumn colour trees. They'll be ultrasound preg scanned in the morning.

Sam the #Wiltipoll #ram #lamb came home with me today. He'll settle in for a few weeks before meeting the younger #ewes. Two wether weaner lambs will keep him company until then.

Picked up some new young #ewes today. Drizzly cool trip on the back of the ute meant they were head-down-tail-up grazing as soon as I dropped them in the holding paddock. They'll have full bellies & good shelter tonight before I let them into the bigger paddock tomorrow. They should grow like steam here if this good season continues.

Today after feeding my chooks and gathering their eggs I made the effort to walk up the hill to the back of the farm to see how the ewes and lambs are doing. At last count we had five sets of twin lambs, all doing well.

Look how large some ewes are!

We also have a male goat that has become embedded in the flock of sheep. He is very friendly and came up to me to be petted. He has a lovely winter coat with fine white hairs as a sort of additional layer.

A little lamb, maybe a week old, rests on the ground while some ewes have interrupted their grazing to look at the photographer.

I used the digital zoom to bring the lamb closer but the quality of the image has degraded as a result. Yet I did not want to go closer and risk disturbing the flock.

Our goat in his winter coat. When you zoom in on the image you can see the fine, white wool of his winter coat which presumably will be shed in the summer.

It's winter and it's raining here today. Our ewes are due to lamb next month and some are looking huge already. I took a photo of one the other day that looks as though she might be carrying triplets.

Most of our ewes have twins, which is very good as they can take care of them well. However, with triplets there is always the smallest of them that gets pushed out of the way and doesn't thrive and either gets handreared or gets sick and dies.
