Schizophyllum commune is a common fungus that grows on dead wood. It grows even in winter and is covered with a white fur. I found some fallen tree trunks that had been cut down by beavers. They were so overgrown with this fungus and tiny fruiting bodies that I almost had nowhere to sit and drink a cup of tea.

The macro photograph shows several fruiting bodies of a white fungus growing from a common base, but without stems. They grow from light-colored wood lying horizontally. Their caps are white and covered with white hairy fur. The ones closest to the camera show a pink underside of the caps with massive ridges.

Today I visited my neighbors. I rarely see them, and even then it's usually from a boat on the river. They have a different rhythm of life, being more active at night. And they don't like people. However in their territory I saw two castles protecting their dwellings, many well-trodden paths, a lot of unfinished work. And tracks in the mud.
As a bonus I am attaching an example of beaver art. Note the detail of the workmanship, shows the structure of wood.

The photo shows the shore of a body of water, covered with fallen leaves, with water and trees in the background. Three trees stand at the water's edge, and a path leads from the observer between these trees directly into the water. The trees form a kind of gateway through which the path passes into the water. One tree on the right, two on the left. All the trees are gnawed deep below the bark at the base, and light wood shines from these gnawed parts, while the bark of the trees is dark and brown. The photo shows a tree trunk with a piece bitten off above the ground. There is a body of water in the background. The trunk has been gnawed into a rounded conical shape, ending at the top with a point from which several splinters protrude. The upper part of the cone is light in color and shows growth rings. The lower part of the trunk is dark brown. The trunk is sprinkled with light-colored pieces of wood.

White coral fungus, Hericium coralloides, a rather rare mushroom. I found several specimens for the first time in a floodplain forest, in an area that is periodically flooded. It grows on wood, in this case on two trunks some distance apart. Although the tips look fragile, like snowflakes, they are quite firm, and the mushroom has an intense aroma.

The macro photograph shows a mushroom on a dark brown grainy background, shaped like a fractal composed of many white twig-like structures with pointed ends. The macro photograph shows a mushroom on a dark brown grainy background, shaped like a fractal composed of many white twig-like structures with pointed ends. I can never resist photographing translucent moss leaves. Here is probably Mnium marginatum, covered with water after rain. That's how it isβ€”I see a shiny miniature drop of water in the moss when I walk through the forest. I find it on the display when I use macro mode, and I marvel at its beauty. Then I lie down on the ground and try to focus the shot until I get it right.

The entire surface of the macro image is covered with green moss leaves, with a brown twig lying across it. In the center of the image is a moss leaf, slightly serrated around the edges like the others, but this one is covered with water. It glistens in the reflection of the light, and you can see how thin it is, so it is translucent.

The tiny Lamium maculatum shines with the color of its flowers in the autumn undergrowth of the floodplain forest. Only when magnified can you see how hairy they are.

The enlarged photograph shows a purple flower with a large upper lip-shaped cover, beneath which the rest of the flower can be seen in the form of an intricately shaped tube. Only the upper lip is in focus, and it can be seen that it is very hairy.
The rest of the photograph shows other blurred purple flowers and green vegetation.

When I walk through the floodplain forest and my eyes search for small objects, I sometimes have to switch to "just walking" mode, when my eyes focus on larger things such as the path and trees. I switch modes like this, and thanks to that I can see even very small things, such as these mushrooms. In the photo on the right, you can see them in the moss if you zoom in a littleβ€”it's a moss-covered oak branch lying on the ground.

The cap appears to be dusted with tiny white specks. The photograph shows a rounded but horizontal surface of a tree branch covered with green moss. I like to photograph miniature mushrooms growing on tree trunks. Simply because they are so tiny. Few people notice them. However, my camera has a problem with the color whiteβ€”it renders everything white as a flat white surface without any detail. Now I've found a setting that eliminates thisβ€”I reduce the brightness of the photo so that the white details are beautifully rendered and the dark background creates a good contrast.

The macro photograph shows a greatly enlarged section of tree bark. It has a deep texture and dark color. In places, tufts of green moss grow on it. Roughly halfway up the photograph, a tiny white mushroom grows out of the vertical bark, with a stem that curves upward and a white cap. The white mushroom contrasts with the dark background.

After heavy rains, I wander through the forest and photograph miniature mushrooms. Helmet mushrooms grow on tree bark and are white or brown, or white with specksβ€”Frosty bonnet. They need moisture for their fruiting bodies to appear. This is a flat landscape crisscrossed by rivers and streams, overgrown with forest, with only occasional meadows. It is a protected landscape area typical of floodplain forests.

Little mushroom photographed in moss on the branch of an old oak tree. Both the moss and the mushroom are miniature and completely overlooked. You can only see them if you search purposefully with your nose almost in the moss. And then take a picture of them - if my cell phone could talk, it would probably say, "Dude, what do you want from me? I'm not a camera for hundreds of euros. I'm a smartphone camera with a macro function."
But in the end, it worked.

The macro photo shows a very small mushroom with a hat similar to a tall helmet. On the side of the hat you can see tiny round drops of clear water. It has a soft white color.
It grows from a stand of green moss that is wet and its leaves are partially translucent.

Reed spider, Tetragnatha extensa is tiny. I accidentally brought the spider home from the forest on my bike. Its web was stretched between the handlebars, where it had built it when the bike was lying in the reeds by the river. Without magnification, it was just a tiny light-colored spider, one centimeter in size, including its legs. But it is very beautiful. I am often amazed by what I see on the display when I take a macro shot.

The macro photograph shows a spider against a background of sanded wood. The background shows stripes of dark and light wood in dark and light brown colors. It is possible to deduce its size from this; even with its legs, it is only about one centimeter long. The spider is stretched across the entire frame because its front and rear legs, which are quite long, are stretched up and down - it is oriented vertically. Its legs are translucent like glass with only small black spots. Its body is elongated and covered with irregularly shaped green and gold spots with only a small gap between them, mostly filled with black color, so it looks like a jewel. Eight small black eyes are clearly visible on the front of its head.

Wild Cucumber, Echinocystis lobata, has been in Europe since about 1900, having been introduced from the Americas. After the seeds shoot out of the fruit at speeds of up to 40 km/h, the shell gradually degrades, leaving a net-like lantern with thorns. It grows around rivers, and the river spreads its seeds.

The photo shows a wild cucumber fruit, green and pear-shaped, covered with thorns. There are green plant stems around it and a brown twisted formation at the stem of the plos, which the liana uses to grab onto the surrounding plants.

I took pictures of the tiny mushrooms last month. Sometimes I have more good photos, and I don't want to overcrowd the feed. It's probably Hemimicena lactea. I like to take pictures of these mushrooms in the wet woods best - because they are so tiny that if it weren't for macro photography, no one would see their translucent beauty. The slightly green shade of the mushrooms is the result of the reflection of the surrounding green forest.

The macro photograph shows several milky white mushrooms growing from the vertical surface of brown and green dead wood. The mushrooms have stems and caps, and their white color is slightly translucent, giving them a slightly green tint as they absorb the green color of the surrounding forest. The background is blurred with vague shapes of brown and light colors.

The evening sun shone through the trees and gilded this little landscape on the trunk.

In the enlarged photograph, the gray bark of the tree occupies the lower half of the image. In the middle of it grows a tuft of green moss, from which protrude hairy golden capsules. The background behind the moss is blurred, blue, and green.

You'll never see this moss again. It's too small. On the trunk of a tree lying on the ground in a damp forest, it looks like a fine green coating, like green paint on wood. It wasn't until I was magnified that I saw its texture, the delicate green leaves. Surprise.
Genus Platygium, brobably.

In the macro photo, the deep green moss is a darker shade. Looks like a mass of small tails. Only part of the photograph is in focus.

The alder tree on the lake shore has new leaves. I wouldn't have seen them if I hadn't gotten in the water to photograph the water lilies.

Last weekend, I went into the swamp again. It's close, it's quiet. It's almost impassable terrain this time of year. A tangle of plants, wet below, trees above. When I want to walk through, I have to crouch down into a squatting position under the branches, then stretch my leg forward, push off the nearest nettle and take a squatting step. When I try to focus the camera, a mosquito sticks its snout into me. Photo of the spot - the fallen trunk is my target.

One little frog for today. There were a lot of them on the way around the river. They're so small and so well camouflaged that I have trouble seeing them if they're still. And this one could rival the famous moss frogs for invisibility.

I have been following with interest the dispute between the local people and the local beavers. People prefer less water in the landscape. Beavers more. Beavers work at night. I see dams on the creek carefully plugged with dirt by beaver paws. In the daytime, people sometimes break them up. There are downed trees across the trails. I'm on the side of the beavers. Then there are muskrats, they don't build dams, but they're on the beaver side too.
