"Small Pear Tree in Blossom," Vincent van Gogh, 1888.

Y'all know Van Gogh by now.

I recently mentioned his love of Japanese prints...here can you can the influence of them. The style of this blooming pear tree is very much taken from Japanese art.

The color choices are interesting...the tree's trunk, and the dabbled ground, have patches of blue; I wonder if this was meant to be frost....or perhaps just a trick to draw the eye? He would do a little patch of green by his eyes in his self-portraits to draw attention...he was sharp like that.

Torre dei Prendiparte for #windowfriday 🏰

At 60 meters tall and built in the 12th century the Prendiparte Tower is a sight to behold. It is 12 floors high (it was probably taller though) and thanks to some great restoration efforts is pretty much completely accessible. It's been a Home, a Bastion, an Archbishop's Seminary and the third, fourth and fifth floors were a prison. From the top you've got one hell of a view! ✨

"Woman and Flowers," Lawrence Alma-Tadema, 1866.

I've featured Alma-Tadema before, so I won't bother much with biography.

He was a huge fan of Classical Greek art and stylings, and included them a lot in his artwork, even when depicting contemporary scenes.

Here we have an obviously Victorian scene, with a sofa and all that but the table, and the woman's hair and clothing, all echo Classical Greece. It's quite a mingling of themes that works quite well. Also a rather sensual painting, in showing her obvious joy in smelling the flowers.
