The 4th Trimester – When Support Disappears
Prenatal care is thorough—but after birth? One checkup is standard. In the U.S., 23% of moms return to work within 10 days, even after C-sections. We lead the developed world in maternal deaths.

Good Morning Mastodonians :Pooh_wave:

I am troubled.

I was just at the shops and there was a young woman - presumably the mother - with a toddler and a newborn.

The baby was crying in a "pay attention to me" kind of way. But the young woman did not attend to the bub.

The crying then escalated to a clear wail of distress. This was a newborn bub who was literally crying out for attention and was not having its needs met.

For over 5min. (Possibly longer - I left the store and the bub was still distressed and wailing.)

It was very uncomfortable.

The person next to me in the line seemed equally concerned for the bub.

I tried to engage the woman, to see if I could create an opening to help/intervene but it didn't go anywhere.

On a parental level it really hit me.

And on a health professional level it really hit me because I saw this newborn desperately trying to get attention and it was being ignored.

Something was very wrong with the dyad

But as a stranger in a shop - what to do???
