Wow. An #OpenReach truck just rolled up and is preparing to lay Fibre to our street.
Finally ,it seems we will have competition on pricing for #FTTP service in our area 😉🖖
Today will be my first full day of g.fast internet (installed yesterday). So far so good. I gave up waiting for FTTP as it's still going to be a few years yet. I went with iinet because they have a 6 months free deal and no lock-in contract. Installer Tristan was terrific.

Well finally ditched Sky TV and Fibre FTTP. Couldn’t justify the increase at the end of contract. Went with PlusNet FTTP, Now TV entertainment, cinema and boost for £11/month and a Firestick #TV #Broadband #FTTP #Fibre Seems to be working well so far.
5G Broadband Fail Over
https://blog.hardill.me.uk/2025/11/28/5g-broadband-fail-over/
Due to an unfortunate set of circumstances I have been left in limbo between FTTC and a FTTP install.
My FTTP install failed due to a collapsed duct and my FTTC line was ceased a few days later (an oversight led to this not being cancelled). This was then compounded by being informed it would not be possible to reconstitute the FTTC line (which later turned out not to be the case, but not […]
All done! About 2 hours 15 mins from start to finish. #OpenReach #FTTP #fibre #broadband
Full-fibre FTTP telegraph poles finally arriving in our village. Don’t know why they couldn’t just use the existing poles, and of course they’re ugly compared to underground ducting, but it’s high time the local Virgin Media monopoly was broken. #broadband #OpenReach #fttp
Yay, woke up to find out the OpenReach has ceased by FTTC Copper Pair even though they failed to install the FTTP on Friday.
Really hoping @aaisp can get this fixed as I really need this fixed before I burn through all the data on my fallback pre-paid LTE SIM
Ok I'll be honest, I'm impressed with OpenReach.
Aborted FTTP install yesterday morning due to blocked duct and someone has already been and marked out for digging. Now we wait and see how long before they dig
ONT on the wall, PoE ready to power it all
Just a shame no actual fibre to the other side of the wall. (The duct appears to have collapsed...)
(all this to work round the builder who decided that having the master socket by the front door with no power or anywhere to place equipment was a brilliant idea)
helluva grand thunderstorm swept in from the west in an impressive north-south band that swept much of nsw, yesterday arvo/eve. i was "excited", in a minor geek way, coz historically i'd have needed to rush to my modem & unplug it, lest it become the third one fried by a surge up the telephone cable to it, but now, freshly on #FttP, ergo no more telephone line, that's not a risk any more. ie, this was gonna be my first thunderstorm where i could stay online throughout.
hahaha, very droll, you dimwitted dropbear... you taunted the ooniverse, who responded by taking out your entire district's electricity in a blasted blackout that lasted a coupla hours. sassen frassen rassen
been years since i last had to light the candelabra, then heat up my dinner [my recent bulk stir fry as usual] in a frying pan on the gas cooktop [rather than microwave]. as i've posted many times here over the various months, i would love to be able to fully decarbonise / electrify my house, but know i never can [all the peopling needed], however the rare occasions like last night remind me of the benefit of having both gas & electrickery to my home. sorry Gaia, though my conscience is far from clear, i am stuck.
@Old_IT_geek @cheryanne @MsDropbear42@blahaj.zone @captainb Well, seems this grumpy little fangball now has one less thing about which to moan. Though ofc madmonk & trumble remain arseholes til their last breaths for what they did to the NBN [& so much else too, obvs], & though it's been too stupid-many years to reach this point, finally there is reason to allow oneself a little grin...
For reference, my years-old now-superseded #fraudband #FttN achieved a best of ~39 / 7 Mbps.
I sincerely wish & hope that all remaining victims of those ghastly Liebs & Nuts can similarly gain this QoL lift, absobloodylutely ASAP! 🤞 🤞 🤞
Must stop refreshing the OpenReach fibre checker to see when the system gets updated and acknowledges the crew that pulled the fibre earlier this week....
Watching the OpenReach contractor pull the fibre past my house.
@aaisp hopefully able to order soon...
I've regularly mocked the #NBN about the free #FTTP upgrade I'm getting. Justifiably. It's been a saga. 🤷
However, the team labouring away today, the ones making all those strange noises, *are still working*. At 6:45pm. Official sunset is 7:09pm, but we lose it ~15 mins earlier. They start around 7:30am.
I'm surprised & impressed, & hope they're well paid for such long days. I *really* hope they're not being exploited.
It's been some months now, yet still I hide with doors locked & curtains drawn. As I write, there are noises, strange mechanical noises. Through a gap I spy men in orange & yellow uniforms coming in & out of view. They're digging in, fortifying. I fear my time is near, the end approaches.
I leave these records in hope that others will never experience the horror, the travails, indeed, the terrible costs, of their free NBN fibre to the premises upgrade.

Expanding your fiber network to support multiple devices per home or office?
Legacy switches can’t handle PoE and fiber at scale.
Versitron PoE Switches for Fiber to the Premises (FTTP) offer industrial-grade reliability, easy management, and efficient power delivery across all endpoints.
Have you implemented PoE over fiber in FTTP networks? What benefits did you notice?
