Hab' gestern Abend alte Floppies auseinandergenommen und mit den Magnetscheiben auf meiner Geldruckplatte rumgespielt.

Looking for your favorite #printmaking learning resources - books or websites! (text preferred over video)

Particularly interested in #linocut and/or #gelliPlate printing info.

I’m starting from scratch here, so beginner stuff is welcome, but also don’t mind super deep dives!

Also if you have a favourite non Amazon supplier for supplies that won’t break the bank, feel free to drop those in as well!

For some reason I'd been resisting getting a third gel plate to keep at my partner's place, but I finally caved and picked one up today. With the coupons I had, I only ended up paying $11 for it.

I managed to pick up a bunch of half price acrylic paint and gel medium as well, making my start up cost for my art kit up here rather reasonable.

Monodruk i płytka żelowa dają wiele możliwości zarówno do zabawy jak i realizacji artystycznych planów. Jeśli posiadasz płytkę żelową, to zapewne chciałabyś wykorzystać jej wszystkie możliwości. Jedną z nich jest transfer obrazów / zdjęć w monodruku zwany też image resist. Technikę tą odkryła Birgit Koopsen – moim zdaniem mistrzyni płytki żelowej. Jeśli temat jest dla ciebie interesujący, to zapraszam do lektury i nie tylko.

Dziś na tapet wzięłam strony z gazet różnego rodzaju, dodatkowo kilka różnych rodzajów farby. Zacznę może od tego, że nie jest ważne czy są to zdjęcia postaci, czy strony z drukiem, czy krajobrazy. Natomiast ważne jest żeby zdjęcia te były z wysokim kontrastem i ostre, nie muszą być czarno-białe. Wspominałam o tym w artykule >> monoprinting co to takiego?

Jak wykonać transfer obrazów / zdjęć w monodruku (monoprintingu)?

Są dwie metody robienia transferów z użyciem farby akrylowej:

Pierwsza wymaga szybkiego działania i nie zawsze daje dobre efekty. Jednak zawsze można ją przeobrazić w tą drugą metodę, więc nic straconego.

Przygotuj sobie gotowe tła, na których chcesz odbić transfery oraz wyselekcjonowane zdjęcia, które chcesz transferować.
Na płytkę wyciśnij niewielką ilość farby akrylowej i za pomocą wałka równomiernie ją rozprowadź. Jeśli farby jest za dużo, to zbierz ją wałkiem – wałek nie powinien się ślizgać. Warstwa powinna być cienka, jednak nie za bardzo, gdyż farba zbyt szybko wyschnie. Upewnij się również, że cała powierzchnia płytki żelowej została równomiernie pokryta farbą.
Transferowanie na płytkę: Na płytce żelowej, na której jest mokra warstwa farby umieść wybrany obraz “twarzą” w dół (zdjęciem, które chcesz przetransferować) na farbie. Wygładź go dłonią lub wałkiem, aby usunąć pęcherzyki powietrza i zapewnić dobry kontakt wydruku z płytką żelową.
Po chwili ostrożnie podnieś zdjęcie z płytki żelowej, odklejając go od powierzchni. Na płytce powinno być widać to, co zostało pobrane z wydruku (lustrzane odbicie oryginalnego zdjęcia z magazynu). Natomiast farba z płytki żelowej powinna przylgnąć do papieru.
Teraz trzeba działać szybko. Na powierzchnię płytki żelowej pokrytą transferem przyłóż papier z uprzednio przygotowanym własnym tłem. Oczywiście drukiem do płytki. Wygładź powierzchnię ręką lub wałkiem. Następnie podnieś papier z tłem – powinien na nim pojawić się transfer pobrany z płytki żelowej.
Jeśli transfer nadal widać na płytce, oznacza to że farba wyschła i teraz jedyną opcją pobrania go jest druga metoda.

Druga metoda transferu obrazów w monodruku (monoprintingu) jest bardziej czasochłonna, ale częściej zyskasz z nią zadowalający efekt.

Przygotuj sobie papier, na którym chcesz odbić transfery oraz wyselekcjonowane zdjęcia, które chcesz transferować.

Czas schnięcia może być różny w zależności od farby i warunków atmosferycznych.
Kiedy farba na płytce jest sucha – możesz to sprawdzić dotykając palcem w miejscu, które nie jest ważną częścią wydruku – rozprowadź cienką warstwę farby akrylowej. Warstwa powinna być na tyle cienka, aby spod niej widać było obraz transferu. Opcjonalnie możesz w tle dodać tekstury z użyciem płytek lub stempli itp.
Teraz pozostaje już tylko “zebrać” wydruk z transferowanym zdjęciem. Na powierzchnię płytki żelowej przyłóż papier, wygładź powierzchnię ręką lub wałkiem. Następnie podnieś z płytki – powinno na nim pojawić się wszystko to co było na płytce żelowej.

Jak dla mnie jest to dość trudna technika na start zabaw z płytką żelową, szczególnie jeśli ma się wysokie wymagania. Jednak z czasem – przy obserwacjach i wyciąganiu wniosków – można uzyskać naprawdę zadowalające efekty.

Moje spostrzeżenia:

Ważna jest marka i jakość farby z jakiej korzystasz – u mnie najlepiej się sprawdziły farby amsterdam;
Ilość nakładanej farby również ma znaczenie – jeśli jest jej zbyt dużo, to wydruk się ślizga i nie zbiera farby z płytki;
Jakość magazynu z którego robisz transfery również ma znaczenie – pewne papiery zamiast oddawać tusz chłoną zbyt dużo farby i zostawiają niewiele na płytce;
Wybieraj obrazy o wysokim kontraście – te z prześwietloną lub nieostrą twarzą niestety nie dadzą dobrego efektu;
Unikaj jednolitej bieli lub czerni, szczególnie jeśli zdjęcia są nieostre.
Jeśli chodzi o czasopisma, to dobrze się sprawdziły vouge, elle, national geographic. Niemniej zauważyłam, że niektóre magazyny elle z mojej kolekcji mają matowy, a niektóre błyszczący papier, zatem to jaki to magazyn chyba nie do końca ma znaczenie;
staraj się żeby nie było rys z wałka, bo mogą one zniszczyć wydruk szczególnie jeśli działasz pierwszą metodą – w drugiej można je doczyścić.

I na koniec jeszcze taka podpowiedź – w drugiej technice zamiast farby możesz wykorzystać medium żelowe i “zbierać” transfer na papier serwetkowy tworząc tym samym super papier do kolażu.

Reasumując. Najważniejszą rzeczą do zapamiętania jest to, że nie zawsze transfer obrazów / zdjęć da nam dobre odwzorowanie. Zdarza się to nawet mistrzom. Wykorzystaj swoją kreatywność – eksperymentuj i baw się dalej. Grunt to znaleźć własny system – odpowiednią farbę i jej ilość oraz wyrobić sobie technikę. A kiedy już znajdziesz swój sposób na transfery, to naprawdę nie będziesz chciała przestać.

Transfer obrazów / zdjęć w monodruku (monoprintingu) to ekscytujący i ciekawy sposób na dodanie grafik w twoich pracach np. w art journalu. Łącząc elementy i transferując je w monodruku możesz realizować swoje artystyczne wizje. Natomiast Twoje prace staną się oryginalne i jedyne w swoim rodzaju. Uwolnij swoją wyobraźnię i eksperymentuj z różnymi obrazami, kolorami i technikami. Koniecznie daj znać jak Ci poszło.

The result of an afternoon having fun playing with a small #gelliplate and a bunch of laser prints of an albuca spiralis.

Overview picture of eight small square prints made with a gelli plate, all but one of a succulent with corkscrew-curled narrow leaves. In most of them I transferred the laserprint of the albuca spiralis multiple times, playing with different colors and different offsets. The last one is a tryout with a picture of autumn leaves.

This one is green and dark grey surrounded by an yellowish off-white and the most grungy. I like how being more rough with applying the paint brought in some movement and texture, though I lost some detail.

This one is green and brown with a larger offset between the two laser print transfers, increasing towards the tips of the curled leaves. I didn't wait long enough for a layer to dry in between, and you can see the edge of the gelli plate running through the picture in a shade of brown. Ah well, it's just play and I still like parts of it :-).

This one is a single transfer in greyish brown and off-white. I tried to replicate some of that movement effect from an earlier one, but in a different way. I like the quiet moodiness in this one.

Tried out a new technique on the gel plate today where I used Play-Doh to make an impression of a texture and then used it like a stamp on the plate.

This one was of one of those Mardi Gras bead necklaces.

Seems like a great technique to take impressions of textures that aren't on a flat surface or textures of objects that you don't want to cover in paint.

Super excited to try this out more!

Today's gel plate experiments were mostly different types of textures, like the under side of a Lego block. Started cutting my paper in half because I was feeling like I was being wasteful by printing 5x7s on 8.5x11s, and that made me feel like I was being kinda prolific.... I must have made about 50 pages today. 😅

It'll be fun to use these down the line...
