Personally, I prefer an ecological characterization of the species via its #epithet. But scientists/celebrities are also frequently honored. @plazi_species very interesting work about the #tarantula genus #Aenigmarachne (#Theraphosidae), formerly monotypic with a species known from Costa Rica, now with a #newspecies described from both genders and discovered in #Colombia, thus extending the former known range of the #genus.
Shown is a #fly of the #genus #Sarcophaga, not being determined on a #specieslevel. It belongs to the #cryptic S. carnaria-#speciesgroup S. #carnaria itself is distributed throughout the #Palearctic region and is a #parasitoid of earthworms. H. E. Moore et al. (2021) used #cuticularhydrocarbon (CHC) profiles to differentiate 11 Sarcophaga species (including S. carnaria) from each other

Ich hab versucht zu recherchieren, und anscheinend ist es „der Rote Panda“, wenn es um die Art geht, und „das Rote Panda-Männchen“ bzw „das Rote Panda-Weibchen“, wenn's ums Geschlecht geht.
„Panda“ selbst hat ja gar kein Genus, du könntest insofern auch „die Rote Panda“ sagen.

Polydrusus is a genus of broad-nosed weevils in the family Curculionidae, comprising over 180 species native to Europe and parts of North America. These beetles are often metallic green and are commonly found in woodlands and gardens.
A notable species is Polydrusus formosus, the green immigrant leaf weevil, measuring 5–7 mm. It features emerald green scales over a black body and feeds on young leaves and buds of deciduous trees like birch, oak, and fruit trees. Larvae develop in the soil, feeding on roots, and adults are active from April to August. While generally harmless, they can cause cosmetic damage to fruit crops.
Another species, Polydrusus impressifrons, or the pale green weevil, is slightly smaller at 3.8–5.6 mm. It has bluish-green scales and a broader head. This species feeds on various trees and shrubs, including poplar and birch, and is found across Europe and parts of North America.
Both species are often mistaken for those in the genus Phyllobius due to similar appearances.

Robsonella is a small #genus of #octopuses in the #family #Octopodidae. It contains two described #species. Robsonella octopuses can be found on the central-south coast of Chile. If an octopus’ first lateral tooth in the radula is crescent shaped; this allows you to identify it as a #RobsonellaFontaniana. One species in the genus, Robsonella fontaniana, inhabit the coastal waters of Chile and range from northern Peru to Golfo Nuevo in Argentina.

@michaela @tazgetroete ich denke es macht sehr wohl einen Unterschied wenn politische Spitzen öffentlich ansprechen das der übliche Sprachegebrauch große Teile der Gesellschaft ausschließt.
Mir fällt auf das die konservativ gelesenen Parteien eher zu sowas fähig sind. Sie sind oft auch die ersten die Frauen in Spitzenpositionen haben.
Damit sage ich noch gar nichts über das grundsätzliche Problem der deutschen Sprache mit der zwingenden Geschlechtszuweisung. #genus
