arghh moment while tweaking my #gopher client config this morning:
why does everyone blindly use "h" as a selector for both an html file AND a url that may or may not be a html file (like a Gemini url).
The only answer I have is to only display directory and query selectors in my client because frankly most selectors are either obsolete or useless.
stumbling around gopher in my pyjamas this morning I saw an inline picture. Before snapping my laptop shut in wretched fear, I checked to see if the sky had darkened. It hadn't, so what is this infamous devilry? Turns out it's just a markdown file, and as I'm running Chawan in Kitty it automatically displays .md files with image content. Phew, I almost ran to church.

The #geminiprotocol seems to be more active than the #gopherProtocol , I find both interesting, but I must admit Gemini is a bit easier and more convenient for making a basic page with hyperlinks.
Someone made an interface to some LLM from Gopher, did you know?

Morning folks! Today we have a bit of a Dystopia Special (as Yuletide approaches) in the gopherhole, mainly concerning motoring offences, real or implied or future-crime. I watched a YouTube video that briefly discussed the latest idea that police can you use AI and cameras to label your car journey "suspicious" and potentially monitor you accordingly.
Segwaying into VPN usage in the UK seemed only natural, and in a moment of seasonal whimsy I asked ChatGPT "Which company is providing vpn monitoring data for Ofcom" and was surprised to find that 3 are involved so far. @desirable_dialogue I just wrote about this, although not created by the tor community there is an early development browser with an independent web engine called Ladybird Browser, the lead dev believes in white genocide and supports dhh (see links below) but this is the only other web engine I know of other than chromium and firefox and the apple one maybe it can be forked.
Like I say in the link maybe the solution is to write websites for a simpler protocol than Http at this point like Gemini or Gopher or to just use a reduced html featureset so as to be compliant with reduced html featureset browsers that are more realistic to maintain without capitalist investment

Today I added new features to Goophy:
- Keep alive config param in order to disconnect idle connections after the configured time.
- Disconnect new connections on max connections reached until there is an available connection slot.
New version up and running on my gopher hole. This will be the last version with all the code in one single file. It's time to refactor and split things 😉

I've found a use to the bad bots that scrape the internet 24/7. Finally my friends from China managed to break Goophy 😆
Because of it I've discovered a bug managing the max connections of the server. I knew I have a bug somewhere and I was waiting to find and fix it before continue to add new features and improvements. New version up and running. Let's see if my testers from China will find something else 😂
